Chapter 6

My blood began to boil. "Daddy, rogues. Eastern boarder." I cut the mind-link. I walked over to a tree and began to climb.

"Chloe! Psssst! Chloe! What are-"

"Shhhhh!" I called down. I reached mid way up where the branches began to run together and started hopping through the trees towards the sound of the rogues. I could hear Jared creep through the forest below me, trying to keep up with my speed. Within minutes I was directly above them. Their stink wafting up through the branches causing my nose to crinkle.

"The folks down the way got a couple of motorcycles we could sell for quite a bit, and the house next door has a safe where they keep a stash of money." I heard a branch crack below me and saw Jared jump behind a tree.

"Hey, did you hear that?" The tall rogue said.

"Yea. You reckon it's a guard?" The short one said.

I rolled my eyes and hopped down.

"No. Not a guard." They looked me up and down.

"Oh my Jeff, it looks like this little she-wolf is out on her own." The short one cackled.

"Well, Sam, I reckon her mate would hate it if something happened to her. We should take good care of her for him." He grinned at his companion.

"I don't think you want to do that guys."

"Oh? And why is that sweet cheeks?" Said the tall one. A deep growl came from behind them.

"Because she's not alone, numb nuts." Jared said through gritted teeth. I smirked at him. Before I could utter another word, he drove his fist through the tall ones face, startling both me and Sam, the small one. Jared shook his fist to get brain matter off of it.

"Now what's this you were saying about keeping an eye on my mate for me?" Jared said.

"I-I…"

"And old man Wood don't pay no attention no more?" Jared growled out.

"I-I…"

"For your information dumbass, that's a double negative. So your statement makes no sense. Second, I assure you, Mr.Wood does care and I'm sure his pack cares when you take their shit."

"IS THAT ALL YOU CAN f*****g SAY IS I?" Jared roared.

"Alpha Black!" Daddy's voice rang out in the crisp morning air. Jared straiten his back.

"Yes, Alpha Wood?" Jared's respectful tone towards my father stunned both Daddy and everyone else, including myself.

"What happened?"

"Sir, Miss Chloe and I were walking in the forest when we heard the rogues. We came to investigate when we overheard them talking about robbing some of your pack members. Miss Chloe confronted them and they proceeded to threaten to assault her. I killed one and was interrogating this one when you arrived sir." My father raised his eye brow.

"Chloe Lynn, is this true?" I nodded. Daddy sighed. Daddy turn to the rogue.

"Son, do you know what you're doin' is wrong?"

"Y-yes sir." The man was trembling.

"Then what in the hell are you doin' on my land? Threatin' my daughter? Do you have any idea who this man is?" Daddy said pointing at Jared who was staring down the rogue. I could feel him pushing his alpha aura out causing everyone but Daddy and I to bare their necks.

"Y-yes sir… I-I do." I noticed a puddle forming on the ground at the man's feet.

"Psssssttttt… Jared…" I whispered he turned to me. "Stop that."

"What?" He whispered.

"You know what!" I quietly hissed. He rolled his eyes but relaxed his body. His aura no longer seeping out of him.

"Son, if I ever see your filthy ass on my land again, I'll hand you over to Jared here. You understand?" My father narrowed his eyes at the rogue who was staring terrified at Jared.

"Y-yes sir." He said nodding his head erratically.

"Good. Now go on. Get!" The rogue took off. Boarder patrol notified my father when the rogue was gone. He turned to Jared.

"Liam is at the house." With that he turned and walked off leaving me and Jared alone. I looked over at him and he was staring off at the mountains.

"Jared, I want you to know that I'm sorry about-"

"What do you have to be sorry for princess?" He looked at me and smiled sadly.

"I heard your daddy is meaner than you." Jared chuckled.

"I don't know." He walked up to me placing his hands on my hips.

He was the biggest man I had ever seen. He had to have been at least seven and a half feet tall and his shoulders were broad like a bear. I smiled shyly at him but he didn't waver. He just stared down his nose at me. I walked over by my mother who immediately wrapped her arm around my shoulder. Jared walked up to the man.

"Father-" it sounded like lightening struck in the kitchen. Liam's hand made contact with Jared's face and I thought his head would come clear off but Jared hardly even jerked. His jaw tightening. A rumble came from my chest and I flew across the table grabbing a knife in the process. Before I could stab him my father grabbed my waist.

"Easy, Chloe Lynn. You don't want to do that."

"Chloe, he hurt mate!" May snarled I fought against my father, gnashing my teeth and extending my claws.

"Daddy, he's bleeding. Momma…" I pleaded with my eyes. Momma just nodded and got up getting a cold wash cloth to clean him up with.

"Don't touch the boy! He deserves it." Liam spit out.

"With all due respect, Alpha Black, this is my house. And you will not tell me what to do in my house." My mother held her head high and proceeded to walk toward Jared. Liam let out a warning growl. Momma's eyes sharpened at him.

"Liam James Black, I know you did not just growl at me." Liam overted his eyes and huffed.

"Yea… that's what I thought. Mary would be ashamed." Liam's cheeks flushed but he said nothing. Momma wiped the blood from Jared's nose and gave him a warm motherly smile before kissing his sore cheek and returning to her seat. Daddy sat me down between him and my mother. Daddy sighed.

"Liam, I didn't bring you here to beat on the boy."

"Didn't you? You were screaming on the phone. Not that I understood a word coming out of your hick mouth." Liam snarled. Daddy huffed.

"I said, my Chloe Lynn is mated to your Jared."

"Well, I can see that now can't I?"

"How are we goin' to pro-ceed?" Daddy inquired.

"Pro-ceed? Are you inbred? You chose this Evelyn? Really?" I could feel Daddy's anger rising.

"Father, please stop being rude to the alpha we are in his house." Jared said. Liam grabbed Jared by the back of his head and slammed his face into the table. I tried to jump from my seat but my mother and father held me in place. Liam's eyes were sparkling with amusement.

"When I want an i***t's opinion, I'll ask. Ok,mutt?" Liam said sweetly to Jared who's eye was starting to swell and nose was pouring blood. May was scratching for controll.

"Now, Jared, reject this woman so we can go home." My stomach dropped. Jared stared at the table.

"No."

"Excuse me?" Liam back handed Jared and he fell backwards out of his seat.

"Liam, that's enough!" My father stood.

"Stay out of this, thief! Jared reject that girl!" Liam boomed at Jared, pointing at me. Jared looked up at me and smiled.

"No." Liam stomped on Jared's chest with a loud crunch causing him to cough and wheeze.

"JARED HUNTER BLACK REJECT THAT GIRL RIGHT NOW!" Liam yelled using his alpha voice. Jared let out a weak laugh. He looked Liam in the eyes. "f**k you!" And kept laughing. Liam lifted his foot to stomp on Jared again when I broke lose from my parents hold and shifted as I jumped over the table. I clamped down on Liam's leg as hard as I could. I shook him with all my might, attempting to tear his leg right off.

Liam was wailing and punching my head screaming for me to get off of him but I clung on. I drug him through the house to the front door. About the time we made it to the door, Joey walked in with Ramona who looked terrified at the site of a large black wolf pulling a man through the house. I drug Liam through the front door and out into the yard where I let him go. He scrambled to his feet with a look of loathing on his face.

"You stupid b***h!" He shifted into an enormous coffee brown wolf that was slightly larger than Jared's. I bared my teeth at him and let out a menacing growl. He charged at me and I met him, dodging him half way. I turned around and clamped onto his flank and ripped a chunk out causing something similar to a scream to come from Liam. He reared back and snapped at my neck, missing by a couple of inches. I ran toward the tree line with Liam on my heals, snapping and growling. When I got to the tree line I sped up to pivot off of a tree landing right behind Liam who turned just in time to run head first into a tree. I was too busy laughing to see him shake it off and pounced on me pinning me to the ground with his heavy front paws. I kicked and clawed at his soft under belly causing him to let me up. He was about to pounce at me again when suddenly he stopped. I continued growling. He shifted.

"Fine, f**k this. He's your problem now." And with that Liam walked off. I remain in wolf form, staring him down until he backed out of the drive way. I shifted and turned around and my entire pack was staring.

"Ah." So that's why he left.. I walked forward a few steps and suddenly the world started spinning. I stumbled before falling to the ground.

"Alpha! Hang on Miss Chloe. Just hang on."
