Stella’s pov
My heart was beating fast.
“A fake relationship?”
“Yes.”
I laughed.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.”
“I’m not.”
He explained that several members of the board were preparing to remove him.
They believed he had become a liability.
He needed to change public perception.
“And you want me to pretend to be your girlfriend?”
“Yes.”
I stared at him.
“Why me?”
“Because they already know you’re investigating me.”
I frowned.
“What does that have to do with anything?”
“Everything.”
He leaned forward.
“If people believe we’re together, they’ll believe you have access to me.”
“And what do I get?”
“Access.”
I went quiet.
He knew exactly what I wanted.
“Access to the fifth floor?”
He nodded.
“And information about your parents.”
I stared at him.
He had me.
I hated that he knew it.
“You’re manipulating me.”
“I’m giving you what you came here for.”
I picked up the agreement.
I wasn't sure I was making the right decision.
But as long as I was getting what I wanted I was ok with it.
“Fine.”
His eyebrow lifted.
“You agree?”
“I’ll do it.”
“But don’t mistake this for trust.”
For the first time, I saw a small smile on his face.
“I wouldn’t dream of it.”
He took a 360-degree look at me.
“Why are you staring like that?”
“Because you need a dress.”
“For what?”
“The dinner”
I looked at him confused, but decided to trust the process.
We came out of the office and got into he’s car.
He uses one of the latest BMW series,
That’s very expensive.
He even has a private driver, that drove us to the boutique.
When we arrived the store, Corbin came out to help me with the door.
I wasn’t expecting that to happen.
“How can someone that is meant to be the reason for the parents death me kind to me?”
I said in my thoughts.
He stretched he’s hand out towards me to help me out the car.
I looked at him.
Then I gave him my hand.
When we got out the car he opened the doors for me.
I walked into the boutique,
It was so beautiful and filled with so many colorful dresses.
The place looked so expensive and smells expensive too.
“Wawww this place is beautiful,”
“Yeah the best store in town”
He told me they have the best outfits.
The sales consultant came over to us and took us to the the dressing floor upstairs.
The dressing floor was so beautiful.
It has pink cushion chairs and a big soft rug.
“Good day sir please what would you like to get from us today.”
“Yes good day,”
“I need a very lovely and beautiful dress for my girlfriend,”
“I need her to look breathe taken,”
The sales consultant asked me to follow her so they could start the make over.
I stood up and followed her.
Few minutes later,
I stepped out of the dressing room.
I walked towards Corbin.
He stared at me,
He was in shock.
I looked so different,
With the Red body con dress.
The makeup made me look so beautiful.
Corbin was still stunned.
He’s was speechless for a second.
“Waww you look so beautiful,”
“Thank you,”
I replied him with a smile.
I looked at myself in the mirror.
I couldn’t even recognize my own self for a minute.
Corbin payed for everything.
And we were running late so we had to leave for the dinner event.
We got into the car and made our way to the place.
In the car there was silence.
I then took the opportunity.
“Thank you Corbin,”
He looked at me and smiled.
“It’s least I can do okay,”
I look at him and smiled.
That evening, Corbin and I attended a business dinner together.
Everyone stared as we walked into the event place.
The whispers followed us everywhere.
We got to the red carpet for pictures.
I smiled for the cameras.
Then we were shown our seats at the VIP table.
But under the table, my hand was shaking.
Corbin noticed.
He quietly placed his hand over mine.
“Relax.”
He whispered to me.
I looked at him.
“I’m fine.”
“You’re lying.”
I pulled my hand away.
“You don’t know me.”
His eyes remained on mine.
“I know more than you think.”
I didn’t know what to say.
Then a woman walked toward us.
Victoria Langford.
One of the most respected members of the board.
She looked at me.
Then at Corbin.
“So this is the woman you’ve been hiding.”
Corbin smiled.
“Victoria, meet Stella.”
Victoria shook my hand.
Her smile looked friendly.
But her eyes weren’t.
She leaned closer to me.
“Be careful who you trust, sweetheart.”
Then she walked away.
I looked at Corbin.
“What was that supposed to mean?”
He didn’t answer.
Later that night, I returned home.
Another message was waiting.
“Ask Corbin what happened the night your parents died.”
My heart stopped.
Then another message appeared.
“And ask Richard why he lied to you.”
I stared at the screen.
Richard.
My uncle.
The man who raised me.
I need to see him right away.
I just couldn't believe my eyes.
Why would someone bring his name into this?
