Zuki gave a contented moan and stretched. Warm and comfortable, she snuggled down in the bed. She looked out into the window, it was already dark outside.
She shifted on the bed and stared sightlessly up at the ceiling. The feeble light from the lampshade is struggling to illuminate the darkened room.
"What time is it?" She thought to herself. She then lazily reached for her phone on the bedside table.
"It's already eleven pm?!" She groaned to herself.
How long did she sleep for?
She scanned her phone and pouted when she saw a few messages from Lana and Marion. She debated whether she should read them or not but decided not to in the end.
She threw her phone away on top of the bed. What use does it have if she doesn't want to talk to anybody anyway?
She snorted.
Lana decided to ditch her last night. She wasn't answering her mind-link and now, she has suddenly learned to use her phone. And Marion, even if she didn't read those messages, she was a hundred percent sure she was apologizing and explaining her side over and over again!
Zuki took a deep breath, closed her mouth and listened as she heard the heavy treading of footsteps outside the hallway in front of the door. Before he could enter, she decided to fake sleep.
"It's time to rise, Zuki."
His smooth, deep, intoxicating voice reached her ears. She pretended to burrow deeper into bed.
"I've already asked a servant to bring something for you to eat, and we'll be on our way."
On our way? Where is he taking her?
Raising up in bed, she saw Killian was dressed in an elegant black Oxford shirt, some buttons of his front shirt were left undone, it was tucked in to his dress pants paired with dark brown leather Oxford shoes, with his signature hairstyle; the man-bun neatly combed on his head, not a single strand loose.
He looked so handsome that it left her breathless.
"It's about time you woke up, sleepy head."
She shifted from the bed and pretended not to be affected by his presence. She squinted her eyes at him.
"Where are you taking me? I never agreed to go anywhere with you."
A smile played on Killian's lips. He sat down on the bed, his hand reached for her hand, lifting it and bringing it to his mouth. She felt the waves of tingling electricity run through her hands to the center of her core. She jerked her head up, unable to speak because of the tightening in her throat.
"We're going home. We will travel tonight."
"Home? I am home. I don't want to go with you. I'm staying here at Red Crest House."
He chuckled. His laughter was deep in amusement.
"I had no idea that my future queen had a sense of humor. What made you think I would let you leave my side? Let me remind you, my love, that we both agreed on two months of --getting to know each other better. You are my mate and wherever I go, you come. If you insist on staying here, I can't assure you that my wolf Cassis won't wreak havoc in your uncle's pack. I'm sure you are aware that the wolf part of us have already claimed each other as mates. Your human side is the only one resisting Zuki."
"Damn. Slut Shiro!" Zuki whispered to her wolf.
Shiro merely purred in her head.
"Whatever! Besides, do you have any idea what time it is? Why do you want to travel so late at night?"
"Because this damn bed is too small for us! We hardly fit into it. I want to sleep comfortably in my own bed. And I need to get back, my work has been piling up."
" Will we share a room? Oh no, no, no! I can't allow that! I'm not sharing a room with you, --at least not yet. Why is it always about what you want? How about what I want? Shouldn't you also be asking my opinion on things? We should be communicating, compromising. That's what a healthy relationship is!"
"Really, Zuki? I thought we already had a shared mutual understanding? I thought our relationship was already progressing this morning...?"
Killian's voice trailed off and gave her a smoldering gaze, telling her that he remembered what transpired earlier that day; when they shared not only a bath in the hot tub. Wild emotions ricocheted through her body.
She opened her mouth and tried to think of something to counter him, but nothing came to mind.
Gazing at his warm big hands, she remembers how her body responded to his every touch, how wonderful his strong arms felt while embracing her, how his lips fitted into hers. She ached and tingled all over.
She mentally shook herself!
How can her mind say one thing, but her heart says another thing?
"But I hate traveling!" She managed to snap at him. Covering her annoyance to her own self.
"We will go home Zuki! And that's final! You had better get used to your new home. It's where you will be living from today onwards. I will have the servants pack your things for you. We leave after you have your dinner and get decently dressed. Now, if you want to travel all the way back to the palace wearing that... I wouldn't mind at all." He smirked at her.
She looked down at herself, she gasped. She's unaware that she is practically flashing her sumptuous breasts before his eyes.
Her cheeks warmed, she realized she was still wearing her red silk yukata and the ribbon had turned loose! She gripped each side close together to the front, enough to cover a decent amount of breasts. Her face colored further, remembering she wasn't also wearing any undergarment, and she hurriedly snapped her thighs closer together!
"Do you want me to help you dress?" He asked teasingly while touching the ribbon that holds the yukata together.
"You have a habit of giving unwanted help, don't you? No, thank you. I can dress myself." She said in a firm voice.
"Well... Isn't helping each other out part of being in a healthy relationship?"
Lost for words. She just lifted an eyebrow at him. The thought of traveling with him made her nervous and excited at the same time.
"Fine. As long as Lana, Souma and Renji come with me! I'm not going anywhere without them."
"They will come along as well. But, they will travel separately." He informed her.
"But, I really hate traveling! Can't I just teleport us there?"
"I don't trust you not to send me and my whole security team to the Bermuda Triangle, my love! I am well aware of what you are capable of doing."
"And what made you so sure, I won't escape while we're travelling together. Huh?"
"That is a secret, my dear mate."
"I bet you are planning on giving me that damn sleeping potion again!"
"I won't for a second hesitate to; that is if you don't comply! I wouldn't mind bringing you unconscious with me." He warned her.
"Fine! I'll go get decent." She snapped back at him.
Why is this handsome devil always having the upper hand over things? What happened to her plan of having him in the palm of her
hands? Why is it turning the other way around?
A knock halted her thoughts
.
Rising, Killian opened the door and found Rain holding a food tray and smiling.
"Good evening your Majesty, I have brought the princess's dinner."
"Yes. Thank you. Come on in."
Killian opened the gap in the door further, allowing her to enter the room. The pretty girl placed the tray on the table and turned around beaming a smile at Zuki.
"This is Rain. Her family have been serving the royal family for generations. She will act as your personal assistant from now on."
"It's a pleasure to serve you, princess." Rain greeted her with her pixie smile.
Zuki nodded her head. "Nice to meet you Rain." She said to Rain. "But, what about Lana? Are you trying to remove my people?" She looked at him skeptical.
"No... It's better to have two, isn't it? You will have more responsibilities from now on. You will need all the help you can get."
Responsibility? It never crossed her mind...
"I-I..."
"Please your majesty, you should have your dinner now, while the food is still warm." Rain interrupted, sensing her awkwardness.
"Y-yes, thank you Rain."
Killian stood in front of her, towering over her. He leaned over and placed a kiss on her forehead and smiled at her.
"I have already eaten. I'll leave you to dine in peace. When you have finished, eating, get dressed, come on down and wait for me. I'll be back after an hour."
"Where are you going?"
"I need to talk to your uncle and your cousin Aston. We need to settle some important matters before we leave."
She merely pouted at him, watching him leave and waiting for her heartbeat to return to normal.
He came back and peeked through the door. "Oh, and Zuki; the force shield is still up even though I'm out. You had better save that energy of yours for travelling!" He continued, grinning at her.
Damn this arrogant handsome devil of a mate. Why does it look like he can read her mind?
What should she do now? Her mind fumbled with possibilities. Should she stay here and wait for him and let him take her to his home or teleport herself back to Japan?
She could go back home to Japan. But, what for? Shiro has already accepted Cassis. She knows that separating the wolf's side of her from their mate won't work. Shiro will definitely call for a mating signal, and she will go into heat involuntarily. She can't risk that.
She closed her eyes and her plaintive wail echoed through the stillness.
"Argh!"
Rain's concerned voice stopped her.
"Princess, are you alright? Why are you so upset? Do not worry, his majesty will return after an hour."
She massaged her temples, trying to ease the building tension. Straightening her spine, she forced confidence into her voice.
"Tell me, Rain --how long have you been serving the Royal Crassus Family?"
"All my life, princess. I mean, I grew up in the palace. But I started working professionally there after I finished school. I have a degree in Office Administration Princess. I will be working as your personal assistant and secretary starting today. His majesty requested me to come and have us acquainted first hand." She beamed proudly while placing the tray of food in front of her.
"I understand. Then, yoroshiko onengaishimasu... It means; It's the first time I'm meeting you, I'll be in your care." She bowed her head slightly to her.
"The pleasure is all mine princess..." Rain copied her by also bowing her head down to her.
Zuki's stomach started to complain of hunger. She placed both palms together and bowed, thanking the food.
"Itadakimasu..."
She tore a piece of lemon garlic salmon and popped it into her mouth and started eating.
The baked salmon was cooked tender and juicy, the sautèed vegetables satisfied her Asian pallette. After a few minutes, she finished her entire meal.
Taking a sip of her orange juice, she stood up. She would get dressed and go downstairs.
Rain was crouched on the floorboards, busy packing a few of her personal belongings into the suitcase. Zuki approached her and inspected the two dresses she had prepared for her.
She chose the spaghetti strap-burgandy satin lace up midi dress that hugs her curves and matches it with nude sling back heels.
She entered the dressing room, untying her silk yukata. She was about to slip it off her shoulders when she heard loud thundering explosions outside.
She hurriedly tied the ribbon of her yukata back together and scrambled outside and looked at Rain, who's face looked horrified.
"What's happening, Rain?!" She asked, yelling in a loud voice for her to hear.
Several more loud explosions tore through the stillness of the night! Loud shouting and commotions were heard from the men guarding outside!
Different sounds of crashing and growling were heard from all directions of the lodge grounds.
Rain jolted up, rising from the floor and ran to the window of the room. Zuki followed suit and looked outside.
The security team have all shifted into wolves and are fighting with other unknown wolves outside. There were strange men who had not shifted and were fighting off the wolves who formed a defense line outside Killian's force shield.
Rain gasped. "Vampires! s**t! Why are there vampires and rogues here?!"
"How are vampires working with rogues together?!" Zuki mindlessly said out loud.
Claws and fangs extended, the wolves are snapping back at the vampires and rogues who lunge at them from different sides. The vampires and rogues outnumbered their security outside.
Then a wave of very loud screeching, ringing sound reached their ears! Vibrating over and over again through the air.
Zuki and Rain ducked and kneeled on the floor covering their ears. The deafening sound threatens their heads to throb in pain and their eardrums threaten to bleed.
All of the window's glass panes started to rattle vigorously and simultaneously exploded, shattering to many pieces on top of their heads!
Zuki's body started to shake and feel numb, she lost consciousness and was immobile for a few minutes. She shook her head, fighting for control over her body, she was able to pick herself up from the floor and felt something exiting from her body sending waves of whiplash making her a little bit nauseous and light headed.
She found Rain in the same state, eyes closed shut while she lay down on the floor holding her head.
This could only mean one thing. Killian's force shield had just been shattered!
They can't remain here like this or they will die!
Zuki peeked through the window and saw several bodies of wolves lying outside. There were still a lot of vampires and rogues putting up fights. The smell of copper-tinged blood filled the evening air.
She sensed something very strange. There is an eerie stillness in the air outside. The sky is a total black out, not a star or moon illuminating the sky!
Zuki bent down and picked up Rain, who was still unconscious on the floor. She held her by the nape and shoulders and shook her repeatedly to wake her up. She called out her name again and again. But rain wasn't responding to her bidding. She grabbed her head and slapped her several times on the cheeks.
Rain stirred to consciousness in her arms and blinked her eyes repeatedly. Zuki grabbed both Rain's cheeks and forced her to look straight into her.
"Rain, Rain! Rain?! I need you to listen to me. I need you to answer me right now! How will I know which of the wolves outside are rogues and which are the security team? Huh? Tell me?!" She asked her in a firm
Still confused, Rain tried to answer her with a shaky voice. "T-t- th-the royal g-guards b-b-ears the royal family crest on their left b-breast..." Rain said, her body still trembling from the loud feedback ringing in her ears.
"Good! Can you fight?" Zuki asked her seriously.
"I-I can. But, I'm weak..." She whispered weakly.
"Can you defend yourself?" Zuki looked at her intently.
"I-I don't know." She whispered so weak, barely audible for Zuki to hear.
"Alright. I need to help those wolves outside. Stay in here!"
Rain forced herself to speak. "Y-you c-can't. What if you get hurt? What if you die out there?!" She said worriedly to Zuki.
"Rain, I can handle myself. Listen to me very carefully. I have been training all my life to fight. Just as you are trained to serve Killian's family all your life. Stay here until I figure out how to get you some help."
Rain weakly nodded at her and Zuki laid her back on the floor.
Zuki looked outside the broken window once more. From her position, it will be hard to figure out which one is which. She won't have any problems identifying the vampires. It's the wolves she will have a problem with. She can't just accidentally kill a royal guard because she can't tell them apart from where she is.
She needs to get closer, she needs to go outside the house.
"It's too early to let Shiro loose here! Besides, there are vampires out there; they might learn I'm from the Minamoto Clan if they see me shift! Damnit!" She muttered to herself.
She jumped from the second floor stairs to the ground floor and ran outside. When she reached the front steps of the house, several wolves were bleeding and limping, keeping their line of defense. She found them bearing the royal crest Rain was talking about.
Zuki realized she had no connection to these wolves, she had no way of communicating with them.
"Hey you brownie! Shift back for me!" She shouted at the nearest wolf bearing the royal crest on it's left breast.
The damn wolf only snarled at her and turned its back from her!
She inhaled and forced a scream, shouting back at him again.
"Shift back!"
The damn wolf ignored her again!
Zuki pulled him by the tail and caught him by the ears.
"Shift back damn you or I will break your neck!" She said in a deadly firm voice and grip.
She let loose of its head. He crouched at her feet, forcing his breath out from his lungs and muffling his voice, after a few minutes of transforming and shifting back to his naked human form.
"What happened here? Where is the Alpha King?" She asked him.
"T-the A-alpha King, when he was t-tr-travelling to the pack h-house. W-we lost c-communication. This black dome covering us suddenly appeared. It's about one hundred meters in radius. We don't know where it came from. We can't go out! We tried to get through it but nothing! The next thing we know, the vampires and rogues are attacking us! The R-Red Crest House must be under attack!" He crunched deeper in the ground, wincing in pain holding his rib.
Shit! This is worse than she thought.
If the enemy is attacking the pack lands, How come their the ones trapped inside the black dome?
They must have known that Killian was leaving the Crest Lodge and they didn't want to let him back inside the dome! And the black dome must have nullified his powers, shattering it!
They aren't after the pack lands.
They are here for her!
Whatever magic or spell they were using, they knew exactly what they were doing!
"Don't shift. Go inside the house. There's an unconscious woman upstairs. Her name is Rain. I want you to protect her! That's an order. You understand?"
"Y-yes princess!" He answered her firmly.
"Now, go up and help her!" Zuki ordered the man.
He nodded and struggled his way inside the house.
Since Killian's force shield was shattered, Zuki will be able to use her gift. She walked brazenly and slowly forward in line with the royal guards.
The wolves were all snarling at her, telling her to go back inside the house.
She glanced at the wolves from left to right, they were all bleeding. Judging from their struggling breathing, they are all worn out.
She quirked an eyebrow at them and smirked.
"I think you need my help, gentlemen," She confidently told them.
Zuki counted the enemies. Combined, there were about thirty vampires and rogues in total.
Zuki and the royal security will be at a disadvantage if the enemies decide to attack them in groups at the same time. She calculated and strategized her attack. She needs to immobilize them first.
Zuki lifted both her hands in the air to her sides, a gold light illuminated her eyes. As they darted from one enemy to another, working with her hands, she opened several portals simultaneously aiming for the vampires and rogues' bodies. This caught them off guard and with swift movements of her hands by flicking her fingers in motion, she closed one portal after another, severing several heads and limbs in the process. Immobilizing the enemies.
"I need at least one of these damn vampires or rogues alive for questioning!" Zuki thought to herself.
Loud wailing screams and blood squirting gushing out of their bodies came from those whose body parts were severed and all of the vampires and rogues fell down at the same time.
The royal security were wide-eyed, stunned by what she had just done.
They then angrily charge at the enemies who are still alive and moving, biting into their necks and limbs and thrashing and throwing them to the ground; into the trees. Until all of the enemies are annihilated.
"Great! You should have left one alive!" Zuki yelled at them, but ended up sighing in resignation.
Blood still oozing from their mouths. The wolves all howled a long sad crying sound tearing through the night.
Zuki turned her head back around the house and saw the same man carrying the unconscious Rain in his arms.
Other wolves followed suit and carried their wounded comrades into their mouths. Zuki approached the wounded ones one by one and was glad that they were still breathing, although barely.
"Listen carefully!" She shouted at the royal guards.
"I need you to trust me. Whatever happens, do not hesitate to jump! I'm getting us all out of this damn black dome now!" She continued while shouting at them.
The wind swirled forcibly around them as Zuki concentrated hard and pictured the Red Crest packed house in her mind. She then raised her hands in motion and activated a teleportation portal in front of them. Sparks of kinetic energy flicker in the air as the warp grows bigger and bigger.
The wolves' growls vibrated deep, hungry and angry in the night and positioned their bodies preparing to leap inside Zuki's warp portal...
