"You bought me a burger." Matthew said his voice bemused as he eased the door open though he kept the safely chain secured. I looked up sweeping my tongue lazily around my ice cream cone,
"I bought you two and some chocolate. I confess the ice cream was for you too but you took too long to answer the door so I ate it." I said again licking the vanilla ice cream. Matthew snorted in laughter which made all his features just light up, there was just a little hint there of the handsome man he would become one day when his greasy teenage days were over.
"You're weird." He said still smiling; I couldn't help a shy smile creeping on my face.
"And you need to eat."
"look I can't eat that anyway."
"I know your stomach doesn't feel up to much."
"It's not that. Well... I mean it is... or isn't. I just...I'm vegetarian." I couldn't stop the snort of laughter that came out.
"Oh my god that is so precious." I flapped a hand vaguely as I tried to wipe the smile off my face, "well get over it."
"Get over my moral objections to eating meat."
"Yes."
"well no anyway I don't have to I'm at home strangely we have food here."
"Yeah but if you start eating at home they might all realise that you're here. which is something that you'd rather they didn't find out," I said guessing but as his face flushed looking supremely awkward I knew that I was right, as well as the fact that he was the sort of boy who considered cutting school to be a big thing, that feature endeared him towards me more. "Besides." I said returning to trying to make him feel better, "that's meat and I'm guessing your having a craving for red meat." Matthew gaped at me opening and closing his mouth a few times silently, as I slowly licked my ice cream. "How do ..."
"Well best I could manage figured you aren't going to let me in to grill a steak."
"Just... It doesn't matter just go alright, besides I eat I get sick I must have like food poisoning or something."
"You know it's not." I said pushing myself up off the rockery which was a relief as it hadn't been the most comfortable place to choose to perch.
"I don't know what's wrong with Me." he whispered, "so how the f**k would you know." I smiled and just licked my ice cream calmly observing him.
"Will you f*****g stop doing that?" He squeaked turning his head around to look at the wall. "What?" I said feeling wrong footed for the first time I felt as if I was missing something. "My ice cream?" I asked uncertainly.
"Yes." He squeaked still averting his gaze as he fidgeted from foot to foot. I shrugged,
"If it bothers you." I said licking the remains of ice cream from my lips before lifting the lid on his black wheelie bin and flung the cone inside allowing the lid to slam shut and stood in front of him brushing my hands off against each other. "Better?"
"Look you should just go." He said rubbing his forehead,
"Nice I just threw away my ice cream and now you're throwing me out. Not chivalrous." I said giving my best girly pout. I strode down the path and placed a hand on the door gently stopping him from closing it. He widened his eyes at me clearly shocked. "You need to talk to me because I can help you."
"Even if I do need help from someone you cannot help me I don't want your help I don't need your help." He said defiantly
"Unless you're ready to lock yourself up in here for the rest of your f*****g life then you do need my help." I said firmly, Matthew lifted his eyes to mine. f**k it I decided I needed to do something so I threw caution to the wind. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes as I concentrated my eyes on the ground as I slowly exhaled. Matt was looking at me with a look that said he doubted for my sanity as I raised my eyes. I smiled for just a second before I opened my mouth baring my sharp white fangs and hissed at him, Matthews eyes widened in terror as he stumbled over his own feet and half collapsed back onto his ass. I sedately closed my mouth concealing my fangs I shook my head gently regaining my composure. I smiled at him widely clearly showing that my fangs had shrunk back into normal teeth. I saw Matthews entire body tremble as he wobbled back to his feet.
"What the f**k how the hell did you do that?" he croaked, I just smiled but was careful to keep my teeth concealed I didn't want to continue freaking him out. "What kind of trick is that?"
"It's no trick." I said gently, I could see Matthews entire body trembling just a little his eyes darted around looking everywhere except at me.
"Who set this up huh? I am f*****g sick I do not need those dickheads from school sending you to wind me up." He said a sort of pleading look in his eyes he wanted this to be his tormentor's idea of a joke he could deal with that.
"Two problems with that theory Matty one do I look to you like I'm one of them and two can you think of a single one of those bullies who would have the creativity to plan this.
"Are you a vampire?" he whispered, I smiled and pointed up at the sky,
"No, believe me that wouldn't be possible it might not be a nice day but there is still enough sun to keep the vampires away. Luckily for you if I was a pire you'd already be dead" his eyes grew even
wider, I smiled in what I hope was a reassuring sort of way," don't worry I won't hurt you I want to help and you will need my help because there are people out there who are quite willing to hurt you Simply for being who you are." I smiled gently "when you decide to listen come find me." I said turning to walk back down the path away from him.
"We? What? Where? How do I find you?" he settled on that question I turned and smiled at him, I knew from his stunned reaction that it was one of my winning smiles.
"I won't be far away and you'll find me." I said gently walking away steadily..
