Dominique ‘s POV
I rushed out of the hospital room and headed straight to the dungeon with much anticipation. For the first time ever I was fearful and nervous about the unknown. Whatever this man revealed to me would determine where I stood with my mate. As I rounded the corner towards the huge metal door, the security standing guard quickly moved aside and allowed me entry. The passage way towards the cell was dark and there was a small overhead bulb that flickered off and on over the prison door.
Rick and two other members from the interrogation team were standing over the prisoner. His hands were cuffed behind his back and he was kneeling on the ground with a look of defeat. His left eye was swollen shut and there were cuts and bruises all over his shirtless body. Blood trickled down his cheek from what seemed like a fresh opened wound and more than half of his face appeared to be swollen. As I approached him the stench that hit me was almost unbearable. He reeked of urine and from the looks of it it looked like he had gone in his pants. His pungent body odor made my eyes water and It took all I had not to leave the cell.
“Well well well.. if it isn’t the big bad wolf. “ he spat out. “ did you finally come to
play?”
At that ,Leonard one of the members from the team slapped him across the cheek.
“Watch your mouth !”
“It’s okay Leonard,” I responded. “Now tell me, why were you and your little friends chasing the woman in the woods and what is she to you?”
I had no time for games and I had come for answers. I needed to know exactly what was going on. Still, I knew that whatever this man said I couldn’t trust him. I’d seen this before, you torture them until they speak and when they finally did, they’d give enough to buy them time. Enough to get a break from the beatings. In my experience during interrogations,a prisoner usually held on. For the most part, just a couple of days. Then they’d crack. This one however had held on for more than six weeks. What irked me was the fact that we had the best interrogating team in our pack. Yet this man had not budged. What’s worst is that he was a human. Humans feared were-wolfs. Those who knew of our existence had allowed hatred to derive from that fear. Therefore , their life’s mission was to hunt us down. I was glad that it wasn’t a vast number of them. The few that knew of our existence had incorrect information about it. It’s was all lies and
Fairy-tales. Matter of fact, we did not turn into big bad wolves during the full moon and we certainly did not feed on humans and animals. We were just children of the moon Goddess. A completely different species. We hurt, we love and cry like everyone else. We lived a peaceable life , had kids and ate real food. Just like the humans.
“Answer him!”Leonard yelled. Pulling me out of my thoughts.
“They’re my friends..” he responded in resignation. “The woman we chased was my friend Lucien’s fiance.” It was just a game of cat and mouse. “
I felt anger boiling inside of me. My eyes shot up at him. My fist balled up at my sides, i felt my wolf coming out and a low growl escaped my mouth. Fear enveloped him and he whimpered.
“Look..l-look man. It was Russian Roulette. Except we weren’t the targets. We had to
lay our most prized possession at the table. In Lucian’s case, it was Heather. He’s a determined man. His thrill for the game made him believe he wouldn’t lose and his lust for power caused him to carry out his plan when he didn’t win. If we didn’t help him chase her, we’d be dead.”
I heard what the prisoner said. But only one thing kept playing around in my head. Her name was Heather. My mate’s name was Heather. And these sick bastards had tried to take her life over a mere game. I saw red and grabbed the prisoner by his neck pulling him off the ground. I wanted to strangle him with my bare hands. I watched as his eyes popped out in fear. His attempts to grab at my hands failed him because of the cuffs and in response he thrashed his legs about in pain. But Then I snapped and threw him to the ground. I watched him gasp for air , evidently still in agony.
“Leave him in here. ..” I said as I turned my back to leave. “He is not to be released until I say so.”
W-wait.. “ I heard him rasp.” I told you what you wanted to hear..let me go.”
But I couldn’t let him go. Because whatever he said to me didn’t make sense. I couldn’t help but think that there was more that he wasn’t saying. What he said couldn’t have driven him to remain silent whilst being tormented for weeks. No , there was more to this story. And I’d find out exactly what it was.”
