Chapter one - Sleeping Beauty

Dominique’s POV I stared at the woman lying on the bed motionless before me. She looked more dead than alive. Over the past few weeks her skin had grown pale and she had gotten smaller. In spite of all this, she was breathtakingly beautiful. A great portion of her auburn hair had been shaved off, And I imagined what she must’ve looked like with her hair dancing in the wind. Her nose was straight and structured with perfection, dark brows shaped into an arch and lashes so long they laid like feathers on her face. Her lips although lifeless appeared to be full and ripe for the taking.  Her case was almost hopeless. She appeared to be sinking into the abyss of death as time went by.  There was a fresh and clean bandage wrapped around her head. I sighed. Brenda the pack nurse must have changed it this morning. The incision needed to be kept clean and dry. There were wires connected to her chest with small patches. A tube was inserted through her mouth to help with her breathing and suctioning whilst another was placed through her nose.  The sound of the monitor reminded me that this woman may not come back. She was not breathing on her own. A ventilator was what kept her going. I sighed and scratched my chin. Normally clean shaven but now fully bearded. I had not shaved since I found the woman in the woods fighting for her life. I stared down at her. She wasn’t just any woman. She was my mate. I recalled when I first laid eyes on her. This was Not what any werewolf would want their first encounter with their mate to be. She had been scared and looked hopeless. Like she had given up. Whilst those bastards had surrounded her. A helpless woman. Tears burned my eyes. To think If I had not been there that night... if I had not stormed out of the park house for some fresh air and a run.. my mate.. my beautiful mate would’ve been dead. That thought scared the hell out of me.I should be happy. I shouldn’t be angry, but I was. Because whoever this woman was, wherever she came from, and  why she was running from these men, I did not know. For all I knew she could be a rogue and that really angered me. I was angry at her , scared for her life and wanted to protect her at the same time. How on earth could I mate with a rogue? I shook my head at the thought. The moon goddess really had a funny way of doing things. “Stop it, we don’t know that yet.” My Wolf Dax said in frustration. Ever since we saw her in the woods he had been trying to convince me that she may not be a rogue. In fact, he had made several attempts to speak in her favor. All he kept saying with a mixture of fear, pain and excitement was “mate!” And this was one factor I couldn’t deny to myself. She was my mate alright and quite possibly the Luna of the South River park. But this was information I’d have to keep to myself. I couldn’t let the pack know that their alpha had possibly mated to a rogue. Not until I knew for certain what her story was. Not until I  got a word from her attackers.  I was glad that I had managed to capture at least one of them. For weeks now he had remained silent. Refusing to talk. I had to admit the he was a tough nut to crack. After being tormented night and day, he was still faithful to those he served. Then, as if he had read my mind ,I heard my Beta Rick speak through the mind link.  “Dom....The prisoner is ready to talk.”
