Uneasy

Motono had been restless the past week after hearing there was an unknown force with their sights on Amani. He couldn't sit still. For almost 14 years he had always worried about Amani, hoping she was eating enough and being well taken care of. He was now a grown adult and his obsessions with her could be seen as creepy if not illegal . He had always felt bad for her, having lost her parents and having to grow up among strangers. If she had stayed in their village she would have grown up around the pack and he believed the vampires would not have expected her to stay in the village and that would have made it safe for her to stay. Instead, they had thrown her to the wolves quite literally without ever checking to see if she had a family member that could have taken her in and raised her to know of her family roots, who could tell her stories of her parents and the wonderful things they had done for the wolf and human communities alike. He had believed for 13 years that she would have been safer in their village and that, like a sheep, they had led her to s-laughter after the vision they had seen . He strongly believed they could prevent the whole thing if they would just keep her with them or at least send for her now that she was older. He wanted her to know about her parents, but if he was honest, he also just wanted her by his side. He knew it was not regarded highly to mate with pure humans and, less than that, would have to be witches and shaman's alike. Magic people and werewolves should not mix, not that the Greyson's cared too much about that, since one of their own ancestors was a witch themselves. The biggest issue, though, was the fact that he was currently almost twice her age, and that was when the idea struck him: what if they sent her to his place now? He was old enough to be her legal guardian ,they had one of the best medical schools in the country she could attend and the vampires had long since come and gone looking for her again. The more he thought about it, the more he liked the idea. Amani could be kept safe and he could have her by his side for sometime, even if he could never mate with her. Amani was practicing her fortune telling on Zonta. Today they were using tarots, tomorrow they would use regular run of the mill playing cards . Amani was frowning as she looked down at the cards spread out in front of her. The fool was upside down, which led her to interpret it as a lack of forethought in the near future. “ This here signifies a foolish lack of forethought, my friend. Please make sure you think things through carefully before pursuing anything”. She looked at the cards, trying to get a feeling from them, while Zonta looked at her with skepticism. “ I am always careful”, she crossed her arms, shaking her head. The wheel of fortune , judgment and strength were all present in the reading but in the reversed position . Cups and swords also made an appearance and Amani looked at her friend in concern . “Zonta, this is a very concerning reading. Something pretty bad is going to happen and I am worried about you and your friend you were inquiring about. You should go talk to Kita for some protection” she would have said more, but she was knocked over by a wave of nausea before she was assaulted by a vision strong enough to split her head open. She saw Zonta get shot, her eyes going wide as she screamed out in pain, her hand reaches out towards her tears running down her face and her turning into a black and brown wolf, and then Amani felt herself being shaken awake. She woke with a splitting headache and winced “Zonta will be shot , that can't be right”. She had tears streaming down her face. The emotional trauma of seeing her best friend shot before her eyes, even if only in a vision was too much for her to handle and she fainted. Zonta had been shocked to hear Amani say she had been shot as a werewolf that could very well mean death for her, adding that, with her fortune that Amani had read Zonta knew she would have to up her game feeling restless as she ran towards the training grounds for the pack . “Zonta, we heard what happened, are you okay? “ Dakota, Mingan , Kiyiya and Tala were standing behind her looking concerned for her she shook her head as her eyes filled with tears. She tried to hide. “I won't be able to protect Amani properly in the future. That shakes my whole belief system. How weak am I to get shot in front of my best friend whom I have sworn to protect with my last dying breath”. Tala hugged her without saying a word. Mingan straightened his shoulders. “ If it is strength you desire, I will help you get it. Let's go. We need to train all of us , we are her friends. She trusts us and spends all her time with us, so we must do everything we can to do our part”. Dakota nodded Mingan would one day be his Beta and knew he had some semblance of a plan already, while he mind linked with his father, “ Dad, I think we might need to set some additional traps along the parameters of our borders, but I think they should be of the magical sort. But that they are not easy for a careless human to trip”. Keokuk was surprised by his son's suggestion. It made sense and after hearing not only what Amani had predicted but what Kita and old wolf Howle had told him, he also pointed towards some hard times coming their way. Times of war might be on the horizon, the vampires were on the move again, they were looking for someone that sounded like Amani's description of a teen aged girl with strawberry roan hair . Why did they want her though ? He was aware she was considered a beauty as was her mother in her time, but was that it or was there more to it something about Amani that he couldn't begin to phantom. He sat in his chair with his eyes closed when he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket “Keokuk here”. He could almost hear the person on the other end of the phone smile “Hello uncle, it's Motono , I hope everything is going well for you? This nephew of his was up to something. He knew, the minute he heard his voice “what do you want, Motono? I am a busy man." A chuckle was heard and then Motono surprised him. “Uncle, I want to take Amani in and have her live in my home with me as her caregiver. As old family friends, it is only right we provide for her and, as you know, we have a top notch medical school in the area and she is set to graduate this June and so, with your permission and blessings, I would like to extend an invitation for her to take a full scholarship to our school and live here in my human home with me as a roommate. I don't need your answer right now. Just think about it and talk to her to see how she feels about it. She works in your hospital, so you can just tell her that, after seeing her dedication to the care of others, that your partners have decided to offer her a free scholarship to go to our medical school if she so desires it and that housing and accommodations are included. I'd love to talk more on the matter, uncle, but I have to go. My meeting is about to start. Bye, get in touch soon okay!" He had never seen him act that way since he was a small youngster. He shook his head, wondering what had come over his nephew. Motono had hoped he had acted collected enough to fool his uncle from seeing through his thoughts and feelings.
