Seer's Last Warning

    I woke before the dawn, feeling weary from the day before. I regret losing my temper on my family, but they are asuming things. They should know me better than that. We have our fights, but that was something else. Are we going to change because of what we are doing?

    "You look troubled." I turned to David. I didn't disagree with him. "Come and sit with an old man. Tell me your problems." I sat beside him. He poured some tea into a cup and handed the drink to me. I took a sip.

    "Peppermint?" I asked.

    "You were rather fond of it when you were a child. It was the only way you would sleep at night. It will give you your energy today." He said. "Now, what is bothering you, litte lady." 

    "Yesterday I suppose. I don''t understand why all this is happening to me. They act like I am wanting all this." I started. He nodded. "I'm not the one who chose to be the leader."

    "There is always something about chosen leaders. Your great-grandfather, he hated being the leader. He hated making the decisions when it came to prisoners. He did his best to make sure his friends had a say in it. They weren't as close as you guys are though. They will come to understand in time. You were tested to be a good leader. Leaders need the most strength. Your friends will gain their gifts within time."

    "My grandfather didn't want to be a leader either?" I asked.

    "He didn't. All he wanted was to stay with his bride, but the people needed to be protected. He gained the duty when he got into his rank." David said. "A good man he was."

    "I guess we have something in common then." I muttered. I leaned back in my seat, thinking about the last few months. "Do you think we will grow apart due to this?"

    "Only you can choose what happens. Evie, if they choose to see that you think you are more special than they are, then are they even your true friends? It doesn't matter how long you guys have been together. People grow apart, no matter what happens." David said.

    "I wonder what I mean to them?" I wondered.

    "If they refuse to talk to you this morning, leave them be. Don't try. You did nothing wrong. Let them come to you. After lunch, I will take you to see the seers." David said.

    "Father, breakfast will be ready in just a few. The others are already sitting at the table." Ruby informed.

    "We are coming." He replied. Standing, we followed Ruby into the house. 

    We sat at the table in silence. That was until David started a conversation. "Evie, do you remember when you were just a little girl, you would take it upon yourself to make the kids in the hospital happy? You made them cookies after talking to the nurses and convinced many adults to go and read to them."

    "I do recall that. I believe I even did a fund raiser. That was a very interesting summer." I smiled.

    "You did indeed. Your grandmother kept a firm eye on you for days after, because you had made yourself sick from all the work." David laughed.

    "I think she gave me a lecture too. Kind of hard to remember." I said.

    Time seemed to move fast as we went through the day. David and Ruby kept me distracted about stories from around the island. The others had gone to explore and see what they could find around the island. Jared had gone to speak with the captain about something.

    "Noon is arriving. We should start heading to the seers, Evie." David said, collecting his coat. Everyone had returned to the inn, due to the rain pouring in sheets. Everyone, but Ruby, stood to follow. "Just Evie, my friends. I'm sure she will tell you of the meeeting when we get back." I looked at David with a silent thank you. None of them had spoken to me yet, all except Jared, Stayne, and Tarrant. We were planning on what to do from here.

    "We should know what's going on. Evie, we do everything together." Jenna argued. 

    "David knows what he is doing. I trust him. Stay here until we get back." I ordered firmly. I turned and walked out of the inn with David. We raced through the rain. We were soaked within seconds, but that was to be expected.

    "Welcome. You must be the leader, Evie." A lady said. I looked up. A lady stood there. Her skin is dark and her eyes looked black. Her black hair was braided with beads and rested on her shoulder. "I am Cora. My brother isn't here right now. He is out collecting herbs that only sshow in the rain. Please, take a seat."

    "Thank you. I assume you know why we are here then." David said.

    "Of course, I know everything." She said calmly. She turned to me with a gentle and kind smile. "You have had a hard life, child. I'm afraid it won't get any easier. From here, your quest will turn into many trials. Your family will not be there." My heart froze. "They will be on a quest of their own. Finding out who they arre. They will have an easier time, but beware, magic will want to test your strength."

    "Where do I go from here then?" I asked her. Cora stood up and walked to a shelf.

    "Before Lord Albert left to go and live a mortal life, he came to see me. He also left a map for me. He knew what you were going to face in the future would be hard. He left a map to help guide you. You will need to collect seven stones. They will help you against the Elves who intend to make our world a place of terror." She set a box on the table in front of us. She opened it and pulled out a rolled up paper. "This will lead you to each island. I'm afraid that is all I can do for you."

    "Thank you for your help." I took the map. "Why do I have a bad feeling?" I muttered.

    "Let's get going before anything else happens." David said.

    "Lady Evie." I paused and looked at Cora questioningly. "Your quest starts now." My eyes widen and I took off back to the inn.

    I slammed the door open and Ruby and Tarrant are the only ones there. "I tried to stop them, but they wanted to head back to Miranda. I said I am staying with you." I swallowed thickly. How am I going to do this without them?
