Island of Egmor

1088 Words
The island is a very beautiful and spacious place. A small village lays in the middle and they are very welcoming. "So, why are we here again?" Tarrant asked.     "I'm just doing what the dragon told me to do. We are probably meeting someone that will help us. I'm sure we will know soon." I replied. They have asked me that question three times, and I am getting annoyed. "We have to find somewhere for the night."     "Yeah. It's almost sundown." Jared said, looking at the sky.     "Hello, my name is Ruby. I couldn't help but hear that you need a place for the night. My father and I own an inn. You are more than welcome to stay there if you like." She offered.     "That would be much appreciated." Jared said.      Ruby led the way to a small inn. Ann old man sat on the front porch in a rocking chair. "Welcome home my child. Who have you brought with you?"     "Father, they're guest and they need a place for tonight." She said. He smiled and gave a small nod of welcoming. "I will cook dinner and then show you to your rooms. I will show you the sitting room for now, is that okay?"     "That is wonderful." I replied.      The sitting is small, but big enough to fit all of us. "Evie, are you going to tell us what happened with the dragon?" Jenna asked.     "Nothing much really. He took me to see the other dragons and I somehow became the Lady of the Dragons." I said without a care. My family looked confused while Jared's, Tarrant's and Stayne's mouth dropped. Ruby and her father paused in their working, looking relieved and shocked.     "Lady of the Dragons? There hasn't been one for thousands of years!" Ruby's father exclaimed. Great, just what I need, something to make people think I am more special when I am not.     "You are getting all these crazy gifts and I am starting to think we are the lame ones." Jonah said with a hint of jealousy.     "Are you implying something, Jonah?" I asked coldly.     "Yeah. Why are you so special?' Jonah snapped. The others looked like they agreed with him.     "Excuse me?" I felt like a sheet of ice ran through me, followed by firey anger. Jonah seemed to regret his words, but said nothing. "I'll have you know that I didn't choose this. I don't know why some of these things are happening to only me. Who chose me to be the leader. Who chose me to depend on when everything goes wrong, because I sure as hell didn't. Do you think this is what I want? To be someone that isn't my choice. I'm starting to question who I am and I hate that very fact. The fact that my family has magic and royal blood in their veins is still putting off. Have I declared myself special? No! Get your heads out of your asses and think before you speak!"      "The last time I saw you that angry, you were yelling at the teacher." Adrian whimpered. I rolled my eyes and took to glaring at the fire.     "If I may speak." I looked to Ruby's father. He looked at me, waiting for permission. Sighing, I gave a small nod. "There is a man and woman only a couple houses from mine. They spoke of the Lady of Dragons. I recommend you going there tomorrow and speaking with them. Alone, so you can get things figured out."     "I will think on it. What is your name?" I asked.     "David Bently." He replied. He looked at me in amusement. "I haven't seen you since you were a child."     "I thought you were someone I knew." I stood up and walked over to him. "You have aged well. You never came back."     "Times became rough after losing my wife. Not a day went by when I didn't think about ye. I knew ye were a special little girl. I must ask, I got word from your grandmother. She knew who and what I was, since I was friends with her. Is it true? About the little girl?"     "I think we need to take this conversation else where. No one knows of that." I whispered. He nodded and led the way outside. I leaned against the railing, facing the door to the inn. "It is true. Five months. Never made it through. She was so small and vulnerable. She was named Sapphire. She opened her eyes for just a moment, and I knew that would be the perfect name. I haven't spoken of her since that day."     "You were so young and that happened to you. You deserve so much better than what happened to you." He softly said.      "What happened cannot be changed. I wasn't meant to be a mother. My parents, they wanted me to give her up for adoption. I refused. They said they don't want be back if I didn't do as they wanted. Told them I will live with my grandmother then. Angered them to no end on that one."     "They were always selfish." David muttered.     "When they heard what happened, they came immediately. I don't think they ever showed that they cared for me except that one time. I went into a bad state of depression and the only thing that kept me going was my friends and the few in the family that cared about me." I said.     "You've made it this far. That is what is important. You still have farther to go. You have a bright furture and that is the best thing. Sure, your trials are not yet over, but they will make you stronger. Don't stay mad at your family. I know you love them and are doing everything you can to make sure that they are safe, but Evie, you can't always protect them." David gently explained. "You may not know who you are right now, but it will come to you in time. Do you understand?"     "Of course I do. For now, I will do what I can. Tomorrow, I will go see those people. Right now, I wish to spend the rest of the evening alone." He nodded and led the way back into the house. He showed me to my room and I spent the rest of the night alone.
