I woke to the rocking of the ship. When and how did I get back here? I looked around confused. I paused as I noticed Tarrant sitting in a chair beside me, snoring. So the man does sleep. "Nice to see you are finally awake. Everyone else woke three hours ago." Jared walked in and hit Tarrant. He looked around confused until he saw me.
"Whoops." Was the only thing he said.
"You think you can stand? The others had trouble when they woke up. They were good after a while though." Jared explained. "They are on deck waiting for you."
"How did we get back here?" I asked.
"I am still questioning that, so I don't have an answer to that." He said truthfully. I nodded in understanding.
I put my hand on the wall and used it for support. Feeling okay to walk, I headed to the top deck. Jenna grinned when she saw me. "Your appearance changed again."
"Oh sweet Jesus. What do I look like now?" I groaned.
"Well...I'm not sure how it's possible, but you are even paler. Your hair is still red, but looks more like blood and like it is firey too. Your eyes though." She paused, not saying anything.
"Your eyes have gone from a stormy grey to a silver and they are now purple with silver around the pupils, followed by golden specks. Why did it change your appearance and not us?" Erick said and asked bluntly.
"I don't know. Why does anything happen to me? I don't feel any different." I said.
"That's good. This trunk came back with us. We didn't want to open it without you. I do have a question. What did she do to test if you were a worthy leader or not?" Neil asked.
"Memories. Many memories." I said, while making it clear that I refuse to talk about it. An uncomfortable silence was the only response.
"So...the trunk?" Adrian finally asked. I walked over to the trunk and gave it a little kick. Kneeling in front of the chest, I opened it. "Whoa."
"I am asuming that these are the weapons the lady spoke of. How do we know whose is whose?" Jonah asked. I picked up a sword and checked it out, that is when I saw the carvings on the handle. "Our initals are carved into the weapons. Erick, this sword is yours." Erick took the sword, looking unsure.
We each got a sword, but there was still weapons within the trunk. I pulled out a set of daggers. I heard a whimper. Neil was looking at the knives with distrust. "I have no doubt that those are yours." He backed away from me. "You and knives are evil."
"You aren't wrong on both." I told him. I pulled a dagger out and smiled. The handles are black with red sapphires. The sapphires bought back some painful memories, but I quickly pushed it to the back of my mind. I looked back in the chest and pulled out a few more swords, which went to Jonah, Joseph and Erick. Adrian and Jenna got bow and arrows. Neil got two silver and gold axes. "The completes the weapons."
They were so distracted by their new weapons, that they didn't hear me. I looked in the trunk one more time to find a peice of paper with another map. Scowling, I pulled them out of the trunk. I opened the paper, seeing that it is a letter.
Phoenix Soldiers,
Within this trunk, you have found your weapons. Your journey is not yet done. From my island, you will be traveling to the Island of Mystic. There you will find another friend to your ancestors. Follow the map and you will be on your way. I wish you the best of luck.
"Oh dear." I said. Silence fell aorund me. Realising I said that alot louder than I plan, I looked around to see looks of confusion. The captain came over with a questioning look. "We'll have to go back to land and collect food and water. We are not close to being done." I informed him. He took the letter and read it.
"That is a two day journey from here. I remember sailing there with a friend of mine. I'll have some men go to shore and collect food and water." He started sending out orders. I held the map up. It looks like our next stop will be a little rougher.
Two days past rather slowly. The island did not look friendly and Neil felt that he should repeat that everyonce in a while. The land is rocky and rough. There was a lot of water but the heat on the island is what made is worse. It was like trying to breathe in an area with the lack of air.
"What or who do you think we will be meeting?" Jenna asked me.
"I don't know. Could be anything or anyone at this point." I answered. I paused when we came across a rope bridge. "This is not healthy on my person." I muttered. Jenna nodded and began to lead across the bridge slowly.
"This is so not safe." Jared exclaimed in annoyance. The rope to my left came undone. Pausing for a moment, another rope snapped.
"Of all the fuckery in my life, it chose this." I snapped. "Run people, go, go, go!" Making sure everyone is in front of me, I took off in a sprint while a third rope broke. Looking up, I saw that Jenna had made it to the other side, the others were close behind.
I was only a few steps behind everyone else when another rope broke. Everyone has made it to the other side as soon as the last rope broke on the left side. Letting out a scream, which I will deny later, I clung to the right side. "I WILL KILL WHOEVER THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA!" Due to the rope breaking, I fell farther from the other side. "I hate life."
There was only two ropes on the right side and they were slowly coming undone. There is no way I am going to make it to the other ledge. Suddenly the last two ropes snapped in half. I let out a scream that echoed. "I don't want die. I don't want to die. I don't want to die." I whimpered as I hit the side the stoned ledge. I looked up to see everyone looking down at me. "Why are they just standing there. Pull me up."
"Just hold on, Evie!" Tarrant shouted.
"What else is there to do? I'd rather not die. I enjoy hanging around, but this is a little too real." I muttered. I felt tugging at on the rope and I slowly began to move up.
It felt like hours but was only minutes, when I finally reached the top. Neil, Erick, and Joseph pulled me up. I fell onto my back and glared at the sky. "Well, your alive at least." Jonah said. He pulled me off the ground. "He you clung to the map the whole time too." I looked at the map that is now rumpled.
"Let's just continue." I grumbled.
We reached a wide opened space. The area looked burned and the was nothing in sight. "Where are we?" Stayne growled. I rolled my eyes and looked at the map. It says we are in the right spot, but there's nothing here. "You led us to the middle of nowhere!" He pointed at me accusingly.
"Do shut up." I snapped. The others stayed where they were at as I began to walk forward. I paused when I saw a giant footprint. I c****d my head as I looked at it. "Where in the world are we?"
Jenna let out a shriek when a roar echoed through the skies. Looking up, a dragon came swooping down at me. "Why is it always me?" I whined. I didn't have time to run as the dragon landed in front of me. The creature was about two stories big. It was covered in green and blue scales that was covered in old scars. It looked down at me with bright yellow eyes.
"Why have you entered my home?" He growled, lowing his head to my level.
"Cool. You talk." Was my only response. My friends stayed their distance, not wanting to come any closer. Whimps. "My name is Evie Moon. I actually don't really have an answer for you except that a lady sent us this way, saying that you are an old friend."
"You are a strange human. You are gifted. The blood that runs through your veins is strong. Magic wraps around you like a cacoon. I am Edlerling. I am one of many dragon species that roam this world. I can sense your kind has come to me before." He rumbled. Smoke came from his nostrils, causing me to cough. "You are a great leader, I can sense it."
"Do you know who Albert Sonny is?" I tried. He paused and then gave a dragon like laugh.
"Do I know him, this human ask. He was my leader and chosen one. I sense it now. Your his blood." He got this proud glint in his eye. "Yes, I see it now. Climb onto my back. Your friends must stay here until we return." I looked at my friends. They didn't look happy and looked ready to argue. Shrugging, I climbed onto Elderlings back. He took to the sky as soon as I was settled.
He flew to a tall mountain. An opening to a cave was seen. Flying into the cave, he didn't stop. Only for a moment were we in darkness. We came into another opening. I looked around in awe. There were so many dragons. Big and small alike. "Wow." He landed and I jumped down.
"Welcome to the Dragons Den. We come from all over the world to live here in peace. Just like your grandfather, you are the only human to enter these sacred grounds. Walk to the stone and put your hands on it." Doing as Elderling ordered me, I walked to the stone. A cool burning ran up my arms before quickly fading. The stone opened. I jumped back in shock.
"What is that?" I asked.
"That is the Stone of Bervin. It holds the magic and call of the dragons. Pick it up." I picked the stone up and it turn into a ring and necklace. "The stone as chosen you. From this day on, you are known as the Lady of the Dtagons. We bow to you and come to you when you call."
"Wow. That's alot to take in." I said. I looked up and saw all the dragons bowing to me. I didn't know what to think.
"From here, you must go to the Island of Egmor. It is north of here. The ring will glow the closer you get." I put the ring and necklace on and they blended into my skin like a tattoo. "I will take you back to your friends."
"Thank you." With one last look at the dragons, I climbed onto Elderling once more.
