Chapter 04

It is Christmas time !! You know Christmas as a season when trees are decorated , presents are wrapped and all that but things are done differently in this part of the world . During Christmas season , It has become a tradition , specifically in Nigeria for every household to bake 'Chin Chin'and deep fry chicken and for children to wear new clothes on Christmas day . ( Chin Chin is one of the most common snack in Nigeria)

In my family , on Christmas day , we go to Church in the morning to give thanks to God and then come back home and stuff ourselves with food and drinks . Sometimes , we go out with our cousins to the wildlife park ( it's lots of fun ) . We spend the rest of the day watching Christmas special episodes on Nickelodeon while eating and drinking . The way we celebrate Christmas in my family and my country at large might be different from the way the rest of the world celebrates it but at least we all get together to show love and spend time together , is that not what Christmas is all about ?

Boom ! The Christmas season is over but I'm must say , despite the Covid-19 outbreak , Christmas in 2021 was fun .

it is a new year with new resolutions , 2022 ! So , my resolution for the year is to work even harder and accomplish more than I did in 2021 and to also not stress myself about people , I try my best to be friendly with people around me and most times , the same people take advantage of my kindness but that's going to end , from now on , you talk to me , I talk to you , you like me , I like you and vice versa that is how it is going to be beacause I am tired of trying to be friendly and tolerating the things they do to me .

Away from the festivities , I don't need anyone to tell me that I am too ' ambitious ' for my own good . Ever since , I turned 15 , I became obsessed with achieving success and making a name for myself , I can't help it ! You must be saying , " Isaiah , you are still living with your parents , they provide you with everything you need , why worry yourself , you're still young " . I just want everyone to see my worth , I want to show my parents and everyone else that I can actually do something and be successful in it , that I can be the best of the best and also , I just like the idea of making my dreams come true at a young age .

Aside from book writing , I also have interests both in the movie and music industry . I am hoping one day , my stories will be shown on screen and I will become a professional actor ( I also love the idea of being a movie producer) . I recently discovered my love for music , I really love that you can express how you feel in the form of lyrics and turn it in to a song . I won't say my voice is top notch or pitch perfect but what matters is my passion and the efforts I'm making , I believe I can do it !

Alright , I want to talk about something that has been bothering me . Today , I and my mom went out late in the evening to get something . I saw people smoking cigarette , some injecting themselves using a syringe , I learnt that they inject with some kind of substance that makes them go ' high ' and become fearless . I look around and see so many beer parlours . My major concern is that the majority of these people that drink , smoke and take these substances are youths and sometimes even minors . My mom told me that she saw a boy , about 10 years of age or so , drinking alcohol , they call it 'goskolo ' or ' burkutu' and yes , don't even try pronouncing them . She tried talking to him but he paid no attention to her . The problem is that they are making these things very accessible , anyone can get access to them , there are so many beer parlours , so many bars and some many stores that sell these things , people venture into selling them because there is a lot of profits gained from selling them and it is true . These teenagers , these youths are wasting their resources and slowing destroying their lives , some of them have already destroyed their lives . They probably started consuming these substances at a very young age , it could be that they saw their parents taking it or their peers consuming these substances and were lured in to consuming these substances in order to feel among ( peer influence) or to satisfy their curiosity . And it is possible that they want to stop but they are already addicted .

They are supposed to be referred as the workforce of the nation but they are busy wasting their lives , they indulge in criminal and illegal activities . This problem is detrimental to both the individual and the nation at large .

There are a lot of reasons why people actually a***e drugs . Take for instance, some of them come from broken homes , it could be that their parents are separated or the parents might still be living together but do not act as 'husband' and 'wife' , they are always quarrelling and fighting all the time , all these can lead to an emotional trauma for the child(ren) and probably , they weren't told about the effects and dangers , they indulge in d**g a***e to forget about the problems in the family. Basically, people think that taking these drugs helps them to wind down, to relax and forget about their problems and their misery but that's just an illusion . What am I trying to say in essence ? d**g a***e is a major issue in the entire world and it needs to be urgently addressed .

Drug a***e is just the tip of the iceberg . In Nigeria, k********g for ransome is very rampant , you will always hear on the news that 'unknown gunmen' attack and kill people a particular place . Terrorism ? Don't get me started on this one, the book haram terrorists have been a pain on the neck to the entire country . Corruption ! It is a very serious issue in Nigeria .
