CHAPTER XIVThe Last Revelation JOHN LUX stared incredulously at Jonas Havering. Even the Lady Lis turned to regard her companion with amazement written in her expression. As they watched, a strange transformation took place. The human face is a shape of plastic flesh. Hundreds of tiny muscles behind that mask of flesh make it capable of a surprising number of contortions. It is this capacity to alter, this variety of flexible changes, that lends to the flesh mask what we call “expression.” In his entire life, John Lux had never seen a human face that was completely without expression. He looked upon one now. It was the face of Jonas Havering! As he and the futurewoman watched, the vitality ebbed from the face, leaving it utterly devoid of expression, leaving it completely immobile.
