CHAPTER 1
The sun bathed the Dragon Kingdom in a golden glow, casting long shadows across the grand chamber where King Odos, a towering figure adorned in resplendent dragon scales, stood before his son Lyas and the council of dragons. The air crackled with anticipation as the assembled dragons listened intently to their king's commanding words.
"Lyas, my noble son, and esteemed dragons of our ancient lineage," King Odos began, his voice resonating with power.
"The time has come for us to take decisive action. The kingdom of Galik has long been an enemy of our kind, their kings mercilessly banishing and persecuting our noble dragons. It is time to put an end to their tyranny. Ride forth, my loyal dragons, and capture their princess, Irina. With her in our custody, we shall silence King Klimod and halt the relentless campaign against our kind."
Lyas, a dragon of striking beauty and grace, stepped forward from among his brethren, his eyes filled with determination.
"Father, I shall carry out your orders with honor. The capture of Princess Irina shall be swift and precise."
The dragons, their scales glistening with anticipation, spread their wings and took to the sky, their powerful beats resounding like thunder. Flames erupted from their gaping jaws, painting the land below with trails of destruction as they unleashed their fiery breath upon the kingdom of Galik.
************
In the heart of Galik, hidden within its picturesque landscapes, Princess Irina ventured alone to a secluded waterfall. Though the kingdom was her birthright, she was not permitted to wander unaccompanied. However, Irina's adventurous spirit and longing for freedom propelled her to sneak away from the confines of the palace walls. With every step, a mix of excitement and trepidation coursed through her veins.
The waterfall stood as a majestic display of nature's beauty, its cascading waters shimmering in the sunlight. Irina reveled in the enchanting tranquility, the mist from the falls gently caressing her face. Lost in her solitary sanctuary, she let her guard down, oblivious to the imminent danger descending upon her kingdom.
Meanwhile, high above in the skies, the dragons continued their onslaught. Lyas, amidst the chaos and destruction, focused his keen eyes on the land below, scanning for any sign of the princess. His heart thudded with a mix of duty and uncertainty. Though driven by his loyalty to his kind, he couldn't help but question the morality of their actions.
As Irina reluctantly prepared to depart from her secluded haven, a scene of chaos unfolded before her. Smoke billowed in the distance, the sounds of destruction echoing through the air. Panic surged within her, and instinct compelled her to race back toward the palace, her heart pounding with fear.
From his vantage point in the sky, Lyas caught sight of the princess running through the turmoil. A surge of conflicted emotions washed over him as he watched her desperate retreat. Hatred for the humans and a sense of duty fueled his actions, overpowering any hint of compassion that may have flickered within his heart.
Driven by his mission, Lyas descended upon the fleeing princess with lightning speed. His powerful claws ensnared her delicate form, and with a single swoop, he whisked her away from the chaos and devastation below. Irina gasped, her eyes widening in terror as she found herself trapped within the clutches of the dragon.
Without a moment's hesitation, Lyas ascended into the sky once more, clutching Irina securely within his grasp. Her cries for help went unanswered as he carried her away, the wind whipping past them, drowning out her voice. Irina's heart pounded in her chest, a mix of fear, anger, and confusion swirling within her.
As they soared farther from the kingdom of Galik, Lyas's grip tightened, his eyes devoid of mercy or compassion. He saw Irina as nothing more than a pawn in the game of war, a means to an end in the quest for vengeance against the humans. The princess, once a symbol of power and royalty, was now discarded like mere garbage within the depths of the dragon's dungeon.
And so, within the cold, dimly lit confines of the dragon's lair, Princess Irina found herself imprisoned, her spirit crushed beneath the weight of despair. She had become a pawn in a battle she never asked for, trapped in a world of magical creatures she had been raised to despise.
And so, within the cold, dimly lit confines of the dragon's lair, Princess Irina found herself imprisoned, her spirit crushed beneath the weight of despair. She had become a pawn in a battle she never asked for, trapped in a world of mythical creatures she had been raised to despise.
Lyas, driven by his allegiance to the dragon kingdom and his own lingering animosity towards humans, cast a cold gaze upon the captured princess. Without a shred of mercy or remorse, he threw her into the depths of the dungeon, where the echoes of her anguished cries reverberated against the stone walls.
As the heavy dungeon door slammed shut, darkness enveloped Irina, swallowing her hope and leaving her alone with her thoughts. Within the dimly lit confines of the dungeon, Irina's spirit wavered. She sat against the cold stone wall, her knees drawn to her chest, desperately clinging to a flicker of hope amidst the oppressive darkness. Her mind raced, contemplating every possible strategy, every opportunity that might lead her back to her kingdom.
As the night wore on, the dungeons fell into an eerie silence, amplifying the faintest of sounds. Irina shuddered at each creak and whisper, her senses heightened by the primal fear that consumed her. Every moment stretched like an eternity, her heart pounding in her chest, anticipation mingled with dread.
Suddenly, the heavy door to the dungeon swung open, breaking the suffocating stillness. Irina braced herself, expecting to see the monstrous dragon that had brought her here. However, her eyes widened in surprise as she beheld a handsome young man stepping through the threshold. Her gaze locked onto him, unable to tear away from his captivating presence. It was Lyas, transformed from his fearsome dragon form into a striking human, dressed in princely attire that emphasized his regal bearing.
Irina's breath caught in her throat as he approached, his eyes filled with a mix of arrogance and cold indifference. She fought to compose herself, to hide the flicker of attraction that stirred within her. But try as she might, she couldn't deny the undeniable pull he had on her.
Lyas, his voice laced with disdain, broke the silence, "Still clinging to false hopes of escape, are you?" His words dripped with cruel amusement, designed to extinguish any glimmer of optimism in her eyes.
Irina, though wounded by his harsh words, summoned her courage. She refused to succumb to despair or be silenced by his arrogance. With a trembling voice, she mustered the strength to speak up, her eyes burning with defiance.
"You may think you hold all the power, but you and your kind are nothing but monsters. You've torn me away from my home, my family, and everything I hold dear. But mark my words, I will find a way to escape, and my father, king, will make sure none of your kind goes unpunished," Irina said.
Lyas's lips curled into a taunting smile, relishing the fire in Irina's eyes.
"Escape? Oh, how amusing. You underestimate the strength of these dungeon walls and the lengths we dragons will go to ensure our enemies remain captive. Your determination is admirable, but ultimately futile. You will die in here, forgotten and abandoned."
“Several noble dragons were captured and locked away in your kingdom, and we cannot even rescue them. They are just like you, they have families too, they have people who care about them too,” Lyas said to her, his eyes revealing all the pains they had endured from the humans.
“That was the witch, Mira. She was in charge of capturing the dragons with her magic, not me! Why didn’t you go for her, why didn’t you capture her instead?” Irina said, raising her voice against Lyas.
“Yes, it was Mira, but on whose order? It was your father who ordered her to trap any dragon that crossed the border of Galik!”
“That was not all... We were banished and chased out of our homes, we were made homeless. What offence did we commit? Your father wanted every one of my kind dead because we were different, because we were stronger, because we could change forms into the mighty beast of the air. We never for once abused our powers, but he couldn’t just let us be,” Lyas said to her with pain in his eyes.
“If you think of us as a beast, then you have your father to blame. He turned us into the beast you see us to be. If you still have any hopes of getting out, crush it and get used to your new home, here in the dungeon,” Lyas said to her and her heart pounded as the little hope she had slipped away.
Irina's heart sank at his words, but she refused to let despair overtake her. She locked eyes with Lyas, her voice filled with unwavering resolve.
"Perhaps you're right. Perhaps I won't escape. But even if I die in this dungeon, the world will know of the atrocities committed by dragons like you, and they will hate you even more. You may see me as a mere pawn in your war, but I will prove that humans are more than your twisted perception."
Lyas's laughter echoed through the dungeon, mocking her bravery. "Oh, how naïve you are, princess. Your words mean nothing to me. Your human world will crumble, just as it should. You know nothing of the history and suffering that led us dragons to this point. Your kind has brought this upon themselves."
Irina's eyes narrowed, her voice filled with defiance.
"History may shape us, but it doesn't excuse your actions. There is always a choice, Lyas. You can continue down this path of destruction and vengeance, or you can choose a different future. A future where dragons and humans coexist, where peace replaces hatred."
Lyas's expression hardened, his eyes glinting with a mixture of anger and resentment.
"Peace? Coexistence? Don't be foolish, princess. Dragons and humans can never peacefully coexist. Your ignorance blinds you to the truth. You father has proven to us that he wants war."
With those final words, Lyas turned on his heel, leaving Irina alone in the suffocating darkness once more. The weight of his words settled heavily on her heart.
