(Vivian's POV)
"What?" I asked, still dazed as I instinctively reached out to steady myself against Valerie.
Seeing the smile on Valerie's face, understanding slowly dawned on me. I blinked, trying to process what was happening.
"This is the surprise?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
"Of course! I noticed you've seemed a little down lately, and I was trying to think of how to cheer you up." Valerie carefully studied my expression, her nose subtly flaring to catch my scent.
Her eyes were filled with genuine concern. I felt a pang of guilt for not confiding in her about what was really happening in my life.
"I didn't expect our mentor to be back. I thought you two hadn't seen each other in so long, it would be a good chance to catch up
