They landed at Miramar Air Base in southern California in the afternoon, and a platoon of Marines carried the dolphins in slings to trucks with temporary aquariums. Eva and her team supervised and tried their best to keep the dolphins calm. Taffy and Finn, who’d experienced something similar before, seemed to be whistling answers to Chico’s and Cleo’s many questions. Eva couldn’t be sure what was being asked, but she imagined it was along the lines of When will we get there?
Her suspicion was somewhat confirmed when Jose patted Chico’s head and said, “Soon, Chico, soon.” And while Jose comforted Chico, Sol stayed near Cleo, who chattered away.
“It’s almost like she’s looking forward to something,” Sol said, a quizzical look on her face.
