FORTY-SEVEN Eva was worried about Axel, who’d barely said a word since they untied him. Thomas told her that he’d done a neurological exam—or at least the best he could here on the dock with no equipment—and believed that Axel might have suffered a mild concussion. But the former DJ was coming around, and he insisted he was fine. “Ja, Eva, I think I’ll make it. We’ve got to get the dolphins back.” Suddenly whistles sounded in the distance, and among them, Eva heard the whistle that meant Eva. She scrambled to the edge of the dock. Could it be? Soon three dolphins emerged from the water with a chuff, their teeth sparkling in the moonlight. Eva recognized them immediately. Taffy, Finn, and Chico. “Thank goodness! You guys are still here. Look, Thomas! Jose! Axel! The dolphins are okay.”
