Aila felt nothing when they took care of the men who were trying to harm them. The boys were no longer a stranger to killing, but they left a breath for them to vent their anger. Their years of living in the now chaotic world had let them know how firm a person could be in dirtying their hands to survive.
Though it is undeniable that it was the girls' fault for being careless enough to be captured by them. Their anger about the ill plans they had against them is justified. Teaching these people a lesson is not enough to calm their furious hearts.
Being killed was not a big deal for them as they were already aware that anytime they could die. Some of them might have a thing or two in regards to the said statement, but generally their population was prepared for death. It is hard not to be when everything seems to be going in the direction of extinction of the human race.
“Sorry for being late.” Brian said as he retrieved a strand of his mental powers around them. His ability was perception, which has saved them so many times, making sure none of them were lost. When danger is near, he acts as an early warning alarm, and beguils people at times when the need comes around. Normally, his ability was not detectable, but towards people Brian trusts his life to, his power will always leave a way for them to recognize him whenever he uses them.
“Don’t worry about it.” Diane comforted Brian, who seemed to be blaming himself for not finding them earlier. “A fault was also on us for not being careful enough.”
“Indeed you should not be blaming yourself with this.” Judith was soft towards the children in their base. She took them all as her own and she also treats them well almost the same as her own child. “We are also reflecting on our faults this time. But before that what shall we do with these men? They seem to be quite adept in taking others for whatever purpose they need them to be.”
A flash of disgust was seen in the eyes of the men. They obviously saw the morbid situation outside the room where Aila and the others were placed. Although Aila could estimate that it should not be bloody or anything remotely out of normal, there should still be traces for them to know that these people had already had a taste of human flesh.
“They will be living a life worse than death for use.” Hansel, the most silent in their team, said with certainty in his voice. "Who told them to have designs on one of our own? I would understand if they went into cannibalism out of sheer desperation. But their situation clearly shows they are not that hopeless situation to prey upon their fellow humans."
“Cannibals?” Yundeir, who was ignored by the boys, spoke out. As he was out cold until a while ago, he was still left in the dark of the rather sinister situation they are in.
“Who is this?” Jerome said sharply as he looked at the teen in vigilance.
“A fellow kidn*pped person.” Aila simply said as she pinched Jerome on the side to behave. “To ease some awkwardness, maybe we should introduce ourselves as we get out of here. No one wants to be addressed as hey or something? My name’s Aila.”
“Yundeir.” The teen simply says as he studies the people in front of him. He has seen all sorts of people as he was growing up, but these people give him a feeling that made him unable to describe. Especially this Aila, who gave him a sort of intimate feeling, like that he only got from his mother.
One by one, the rest of the team introduced themselves in the lead of Aila. As the girls more or less knew of Aila’s designs to rope in the teen, they were quite cordial to him. This made the boys puzzled by their actions, but still did not question their motives. Brian winked at them to let them know that the guy was relatively harmless to them at the moment.
“Let’s leave here first.” Jerome rarely took the role of a leader if he could help it, currently he thinks that him taking the lead is the most appropriate action compared to any other person in their party. One to observe and test this stranger, and the other to simply lead his people out here. The place gives him an unpleasant feeling, so he wants them to get out as fast as they can. “The car is just nearby, we can talk once we get way from here where we can be certain that the people here cannot spy us the least.”
Everyone agreed on his words and wordlessly followed his lead. Of course before they truly left the premises of the house, they made sure to make sure the trio who had captured them would be unable to trouble them again. They’re not dead per say, only that they will be severely inconvenient if they dare to harm others. Brian himself has made sure that they will have an irrational fear of blood, which itself will make them unable to live well after this night.
The RV was parked in a rather obscure place in order to stay hidden from prying eyes. One could see how valuable the vehicle was from the looks of it from the outside, thus making it a very catching thing for people with bad intentions. So the boys did their best to hide it well before they left the place.
Everyone entered the RV as Jerome himself personally drove for everyone. It was only when they reached the official road did he ask for details of what happened there. His eyes were rather pointy as he glanced at Aila.
Aila who was the receiving end of the glane smiled helplessly towards Jerome. She wanted to explain, but she cannot exactly say who Yundeir was without letting out something she should not know. She might have confessed her rebirth to her closest people, she does not have any intention to let any other know.
Yundeir was a smart person and saw the situation was indeed caused by his mere presence. Sensibly, he took the initiative to tell his situation without reserves. He is a person of science and is a rational person himself, but he cannot help but to gravitate to Aila. Forming some sort of reliance he does not know is good for him or not.
But one thing is for sure. He wants to be near her in some way. As to how, he will figure it out as he communicate with the people who helped him.
“As the only stranger in this party, I will take the initiative to say how I ended up there and subsequently tell my identity towards you guys.” Yundeir said. “I was supposed to be brought to a lab for a transfer to another base. But for some reason my escorts have been separated from me. I take that it was intentional and made to make sure I will die, my peers are rather green eyed towards what I commended from my achievements alone.”
Jerome’s eyes lit up upon hearing the word ‘labs’. The way he looked at Yundeir was many times better than he used to, making the teen uncomfortable in his seat. Aila could not blame Jerome from reacting that way as the guy should be more than clear of how Yundeir is simply a piece of treasure in their department. Given that the teen was young and was clearly valued before he was screwed up by someone who spoke of how good or competent he was.
“I see.” Jerome said as he hid eagerness in his voice. “So what do you plan now? Returning to where you came from might just bring you to your early grave. The one who has done you harm at minimum is someone with connections and power to be able to arrange your demise in such a manner.”
“.....I’ll not return there for sure.” Yundeir said as a figure came to mind who could have been the culprit. “I’m a casual person, but since it was clear that returning was impossible I’ll be looking for somewhere I could settle in. I’ll take this as a chance for me to experience what freedom feels like.”
“You could come with us if you like.” Diane said to strike while the iron was hot. “We are headed for the capital and will stay there for a while before going home. We can at least guarantee that you’ll be safe as long as you are with us on this trip.”
Yundeir was briefly taken aback before he agreed on Diane’s suggestion. It was already good that they rescued him, but they also insisted on safeguarding him until they reached the capital. It made him have doubts of their intention, but thinking that he wanted to be in the vicinity near Aila the proposal was just what he needed before he could think of something better.
With that, everyone was happy with their own agendas being fulfilled. And slowly they arrived at the capital.
