Fire Mason and Alex had both made great progress throughout the week. Both of them had gotten faster and stronger. Mason was the one who surprised me the most by how fast he was adapting to using his powers. He was a natural, quite literally.  I didn't stop him from growing any more crops. Alex had been right, it was a power that was useful to get food that wasn't canned. Something organic and better for us.  I wasn't blind either. I could tell both Alex and Mason were becoming very close. When they thought I wasn't listening, they were laughing and talking in hushed whispers in the kitchen while Alex cooked breakfast or lunch and Mason helped her.
