Chapter 10 It was pleasant to finally have someone to share some her off hours with. Each night at dinner, Emma’s companion, like Scheherazade, would tell her the most fascinating tales of her world and the worlds she’d visited before—Well, before. And Emma would listen, caught up in the wonder and pageantry of the stories. “That was amazing! I’d love to hear another one!” Emma knew it wasn’t the chip in her brain that helped her understand the soft, melodic words. “Lady—” Emma held up her hand. “I’m sorry.” The bud she always wore in her ear had vibrated slightly. She tapped it, and John’s voice came over, cold and tight. “Dr. Bradley, get down here! We’ve got a situation, and you’re not going to believe it!” “I’m on my way, Colonel.” She turned to her companion. “I’ve got to go.”
