"Terra is overcrowded, but a solution may have been found -- tucked away in Roswell is alien technology that leads to the creation of a method of space travel known as portaling .

A party of soldiers and scientists led by Dr. Emma Bradley, Colonel John Berger, and Dr. Layton Tremayne are about to take what they believe is the first step into the unknown. But what they discover is not only a wonder but a puzzle. The city of Eden on the distant planet Nibiru has obvious Terran influences. Who was there before them?

When Emma, John, and Layton return to Terra, they're dismayed to find things are even worse than they were when the trio left. The atmosphere is on the verge of toxicity and the population is reaching Malthusian proportions. Worse, there are plans afoot to portal the excess population off Terra to planets which may not be what their new inhabitants expect. Most won't survive.

Then they learn that a platoon of soldiers were portaled to Eden for a planned invasion of Nibiru and the surrounding planets. Emma, John, and Layton scramble to stop the military action, but will they be able to take back the city that’s become their home?"

Prologue
Prologue It had long been thought that Nibiru, ‘planet of the crossing,’ was simply a Mesopotamian myth. It wasn’t, as early explorers of the galaxy eventually discovered. They voyaged beyond the stars on the spaceship Argos, knowing not they but their great-great grandchildren’s great-great grandchildren would be the ones to return to Terra with word of their findings. While they traveled the stars, forgotten by all but a select few in the organization that had sent them out, a new generation of scientists learned that Roswell held more than aliens and UFOs. The Portal, alien technology, was uncovered and eventually deciphered. Now, portaling not only made travel to the outreaches of the farthest galaxies possible, but guaranteed a return well within one’s lifetime. Except, perhaps, for a few… * * * * Emma Bradley stood on the balcony of her quarters in Eden, a city on a world millions of light years from Terra, surrounded by towers that soared high above its sprawling expanse. For a change, she was alone, and she took that opportunity to gaze out toward the ocean and contemplate the future. Above, the triple moons of Nibiru played hide and seek. Gilgamesh, the largest of the trio, circled in its full, golden glory, while the pure white Ishtar and the blood red Nergal orbited each other and would remain unseen until Gilgamesh set. But before Emma could give any thought to the future, she had to consider the past.
