Huang-fu Wei, Secretary General of the United Nations, found one conference after another that he thought would be worthwhile for Emma to attend. President Hayden agreed.
Her phone calls to Layton were answered by an assistant who told her Layton was too busy to come to the phone, and she should try on the weekend. Calls to John usually got the response that he was on assignment.
It was too convenient. She managed to slip away to the public library, where she set up a temporary email account and sent them a message.
