Rowena’s POV “I want a divorce—I want you out of my life, Rowena.” Was the first thing my husband said to me, as soon as he returned from the office? What’s more? He was accompanied by a lady I couldn’t recognise but suspected was his fling. “Why? Did I do something wrong?” I asked, tears streaming down my cheeks as I stared at my husband’s indifferent gaze. I hadn’t anticipated the weight of this moment, even though, deep down, I always knew it was coming. For a long time, I had sensed he was on the verge of saying something that would strike a devastating blow, but the way he finally said it pierced my heart in a way I wasn’t prepared for. My chest tightened, my heartbeat thundered in my ears, and a dull ache started to spread, gnawing at me from the inside out. From the looks he would give me and the nasty comments he’d make regarding my body, I knew I no longer enticed him. He was disgusted by me. He never liked my eating habits and the fact that I was adding too much weight. “I’ve grown out of love for you.” He replied to me, his hand clinging tightly to the young lady beside him. “You no longer excite me like you used to. I told you to watch your weight, but look at you. You are fat, and it disgusts me to see you. Do you not know the shame and embarrassment you’d bring if everyone found out that a business mogul was dating an obese woman?” “Godfre…” I stammered tearfully as I palmed my mouth. I couldn’t believe that he’d body-shame me as well. “Don’t call my name. Tell me, Rowena, are you happy when you look at yourself in the mirror? Do you feel confident and beautiful?” He asked, his words cutting deep into me. His eyes radiated disgust as he looked at me while the lady beside him giggled without any empathy. “I’ve always loved you, Godfrey. You always said you never minded my weight and would…” “I lied.” He interrupted with a slight frown on his face. “Those nights when I called and informed you that I wouldn’t make it back to dinner because I had some important business to attend to were excuses to get away from you. Not only that, but you’ve failed to bear me a child. That is the reason I have decided to take a new wife. “Say hello to my new wife, Kate.” His lips curled into a smile as he turned toward the woman beside him, leaning in to plant a kiss on her lips. My world began to unravel, my mind spinning out of control as the scene unfolded before my eyes. It was real. He was really done with me. The truth I had been avoiding hit me like a punch to the gut. A sharp pang of jealousy twisted inside me, soon followed by a wave of anger that made my stomach churn. I wasn’t just furious with him—I was furious with myself. How could I have ignored all the warnings? My family had seen it from the start, cautioning me about men like him. They had begged me to reconsider, pleaded for me to stay, but I had run into his arms, convinced that love would conquer all. I loved him with everything I had, believing with all my heart that he loved her in return. But now, I realise how deeply he had manipulated me, how blind I had been to his deceit. He had brainwashed me, and now I was left to face the bitter consequences of my choices, paying the price for what I could only call my own foolishness. “Godfrey…please.” Tears streamed down my face as I stared at the duo in love. “Please don’t do this. I will work out even harder. I will stop, and I will try as much as I can to bear you a child, but please, don’t do this.” I would do whatever it takes to change; I would sign up for a gym membership and would even hire a personal gym trainer to help me shed the weight. I was determined to reclaim the version of myself I thought he had fallen in love with, the tall, curvy woman with a seductive body. I wanted to make him proud again, to have him look at me the way he used to, with eyes that lingered as if he could never get enough. “Unfortunately, that’s too late. We are already expecting a son.” The lady finally spoke as she palmed her stomach and gave it a gentle rub. “I’m pregnant with a child. It’s best you do as he says. I can’t raise my child in a polygamous home. I’ve heard stories about stepmothers murdering their stepchildren.” She added while shaking her head and clasping Godfrey’s hand tightly. I turned to Nate. I hoped he would at least understand and maybe do something. “Godfrey, are you…” “I agree.” Godfrey interrupted, shattering my heart into pieces while he held onto the strange lady. “I can’t raise a child with two wives. What would society say? I can’t have two wives and have people judge me for cheating on my first. You’d have to leave Rowena. I don’t care where you go, but you need to leave.” My ears rang, and both my chest and head ached in unison. I wished the ground would swallow me whole to escape the embarrassment flooding me. Tears burnt in my eyes as they streamed down my cheeks, and the harsh truth finally settled in—he had been cheating on me long before I suspected anything. How long has it been going on? I had no idea. Lost for words, I did the only thing I could think of. My knees hit the cold marble floor as I clasped my hands tightly together. My vision blurred from the tears, barely allowing me to see their outlines through the haze. “Please. Don’t kick me out. I have nowhere to go. I have no money, and I…” A slap across my cheek cut her off. The sting caused me to wince out as I palmed my cheeks. Before me was Kate, the young lady, with her brows creased into a frown and her outstretched hand. “Did you not hear what he said, you scumbag? Leave this house, right this minute!” She yelled into her face, and when I turned to look at Godfrey for his intervention, my heart broke into tiny pieces that would be hard to heal. Godfrey stood by the corner, his hands crossed together as he stared with a frown on his face. His eyes filled with displeasure, but not at his new wife-to-be, but at me. He didn’t seem to find fault with what his fling had done to his wife!
