Rowena’s POV
“She is right. You need to leave now. Pack your things and find a place to stay until the divorce papers are ready. I want you gone from my life. You sicken me.” He said and dipped his hand into his pocket, withdrawing a stack of notes, which he threw at me.
“Here…Take the money you need to stay in a hotel for the meantime. My friends would be coming over soon, so be gone before they do. You can get yourself something to wear and food to eat. You wouldn’t resist the urge to add more weight after all.” He taunted me, and I felt my heart thudding loudly in my chest.
My own husband had made a mockery of me, right in front of another woman. He had body-shamed me, even called her broke, as if stripping me of every last bit of dignity. I could hear Kate's laughter echoing as I walked over to him, the two of them strolling past me as if she were invisible.
My eyes burnt with fresh tears, but this time, the sting was laced with anger. I gritted my teeth, refusing to let the humiliation consume me. I wasn’t going to stand by and allow them to taunt me without a fight.
With a surge of resolve, I stood up, grabbed the money, and turned to face them, my heart pounding with determination.
“Kate!”
The pair came to an abrupt stop, turning back to face me. Kate’s smirk faltered as he noticed the look of fury on my face. Her amusement faded, replaced by a frown of confusion and alarm.
Before either of them could react, I closed the distance between them. Without hesitation, I grabbed Kate by the neck and delivered a sharp slap across her face, the sound reverberating in the stunned silence, leaving both Kate and Godfrey in utter shock.
“How dare you?!!!”
Before Kate could fully register the sting of the slap, I slammed her head against the wall with such force that Kate feared she might fracture her skull. Godfrey stood frozen, astonished by my sudden fury.
He couldn’t believe that this seemingly innocent woman had been hiding a fierce, dormant strength all along. “Rowena! What do you think you—” he began, but two quick slaps cut him off, nearly blinding him.
Stumbling backward in shock, he finally opened his eyes to see me glaring at him, gripping the money he had thrown at me. My brows were furrowed in anger, revealing a side of me he had never witnessed before.
“What do you both take me for? A weakling?” I asked as I stared at the both of them. My eyes burning with intense fury, which even sent Kate cowering in fear. “Do you really think I’d be so desperate to take your insults and watch your mistress do that to me as well? Here…” I said, as I threw the bundle in the air towards Godfrey and watched as the bills rained down on him. “Take your filthy money. I don’t want a share in it, you stupid scum.”
“How dare you talk back to him like that?!” Kate retorted, her palms on her throbbing cheeks as she locked gazes with me. She had no idea why, but her skin tingled with fear as soon as they exchanged glares.
“Shut the hell up, you cheap slut. Are you not ashamed? You are so desperate for love that you never thought twice before getting on a man’s bed. A married man at that.” She turned to face Godfrey. “You gave me the end of today to leave your mansion? Don’t worry, I will be leaving just this minute. But I will make you pay for everything you’ve done to me. I promise you that.” She swore to him, her fists tightly clenched till they turned white.
Turning around, I walked out of the mansion. My heart was heavy with the pains that my husband had put me through. The maids watched in pity and sadness, knowing that they would miss me and that the chances of me coming back were slim. I smiled at them and bade them farewell as they gathered around me to appreciate me and all I had done for them.
Meanwhile, Godfrey was still in shock, with the bills pooling around him on the floor. He couldn’t help but question his sanity about what had just happened. He couldn’t believe that I would slap him and not once, but twice!
“How dare you? You just stood there and watched her slap me, yet you did nothing.” Kate whined, and after noticing that she had been ignored, she pouted and walked over towards a sofa to sit while rubbing her cheeks.
“How dare she humiliate me in this manner? She didn’t even accept the money I had offered her, out of my own goodwill.” He thought to himself as his eyes fell on the bills on the floor.
*******
That night, I had taken a cab to a hotel as soon as I left the mansion. I didn’t want to take any of the cars because I didn’t want to be reminded of him. What he had done had broken my heart, and there was no way I was going to forgive him for it. Even then, in the cab, it all felt like a dream to me, as I couldn’t believe it. None of it felt real, but I knew one thing for sure. Putting him and his mistress in their places definitely felt good to me.
“We are here.” The driver announced, and as soon as I made my payment, I exited and watched as the cab sped off.
Standing before the enormous building with a neon light that reads “Royal Inn's Hotel,” I fished out my phone from my purse to make a call.
As I scrolled through my call logs, I bypassed countless contacts until my hand hesitated over the one labelled "Father." It had been so long since I last communicated with my family that I had no idea how they were doing now.
I contemplated calling him, my finger hovering over the number, when a screeching sound to my right suddenly pulled my attention. I turned my head just in time to see a vehicle hurtling towards me, its headlights blinding me momentarily.
Panic set in, and I tried to move, but it felt as if my legs were glued to the ground. Instinct screamed at me to get out of the way, but my body wouldn’t respond. Before I could react, the car struck me, sending me flying several feet away. I landed with a sickening thud, the sharp c***k echoing in the quiet night, followed by piercing screams that shattered the stillness.
