ELLA P.O.V
"I'm so sorry you had to witness that. So, what do you plan to do? Forgive Jayce and go back to him, or move on with your life?" Lora asked amid the soft music echoing in the club.
My fist clenched around the glass cup, and I felt like smashing it to pieces to demonstrate my frustration.
However, when I raised my head, my gaze landed on a man dressed in a dark blue shirt and trousers. He sat with two other men on the second floor, staring down at me.
I didn't know how my face traveled up to clash with his. He held a cigarette between his lips. His deep blue eyes clashed with mine, and time froze as we locked gazes.
"Ella!" Lora slammed her fist on the plastic table and jolted me back to reality.
My cheeks flushed as I stared back at her face, lost about our earlier conversation.
"What were you staring at?" Lora gazed behind her at the second floor, and she met the man's gaze too.
"Oh no, Ella. Don't tell me you're crushing on that guy? He looks so fụcking dangerous. So don't fantasize about him," she said, and I smirked.
"Why shouldn't I? Jayce cheated on me. So what's the point of staying single? I'm going to meet that man. I want someone as tough as him to break my remaining whole!" I rose to my feet, staggering a little, as I couldn't believe I had zero tolerance for alcohol.
"What the fụck! Come back here, Ella. You're making a bloody mistake!" Lora tried to grasp my hand to hold me back and prevent me from meeting that dangerous man, but I wrenched my hand away from hers.
When I shut my eyes, the memory of how Jayce had cheated on me with Janet flooded my mind. His remarks echoed—the way he equated me to a bìtch, to a fool who thought she could get him to commit.
I recalled seeing Jayce at Lora's apartment. If I didn't break my virginity tonight, then Jayce would come after me, and I would be powerless to face him. But if I ruined myself, I was certain he would feel disgusted and break up with me. Either way, the memory stung.
"Don't worry, Lora. I will be fine," I assured her as I quickly turned to leave the lower booth, only to bump into Margret.
She wore a short red dress. Her huge cleavage was on full display. Her long blonde hair fell behind her back, and her face was plastered with heavy makeup.
"What the hell? Ella, what's a virgin like you doing here?" Margret gasped, stunned to see me.
I did not wait to explain anything to her as I dashed upstairs to escape Margret and her minions. Now wasn't the time to confront her, and I didn't want Margret to discover the truth about my broken heart.
I quickly made my way to the second floor to find the man in the dark blue shirt and black trousers. Luckily, Margret didn't chase after me. She was celebrating her final exams too, since we were in the same department.
I quickly rushed to the second floor, but two security men stopped me on arrival.
"What do you want here, Miss? This is an exclusive section of the bar. Only VIP clients are allowed entry," the tough-looking security man in black warned me and demanded my card.
I gulped hard and stared around. I had no card. What was I thinking—that I could just have any man I wanted?
Gathering my courage, I raised my head and met the security man's gaze as my lips curled in a beautiful smile, one enough to charm him and soften his expression.
"I'm sorry, sir. I don't have a card. But my fiancé is in there."
"Who? What's your fiancé's name?" The security man asked, his brows furrowed, and I gulped hard.
My mind ran berserk. *Who did I know that could be in this club? What if I called the wrong name?*
"Miss, if you don't have any fiancé in here, I will advise you to return to the last floor. I'm sure you don't want to mess with the men in here," the security guard warned. His voice was cold and firm.
"Of course. I am not lying. My fiancé is Kenneth Declan. The CEO of Declan Group!" I lied, my heart pounding as I didn't even know who Kenneth Declan was.
I hadn't seen his photo, as he was a private man. Though he controlled the Declan Group, and I planned to work there because he's Jayce's boss, and Jayce held him in high regard, I hadn't seen any photos of Kenneth.
The security man's brows furrowed as he glared at me. "Are you making that up?"
"No!" I responded, my voice firm as I realized Kenneth was in there. A wave of relief crashed over me. But what if Kenneth wasn't the man in the dark blue suit? Well, I thought it didn't matter. So long as I got the chance to be with one of those top-tier men, I didn't mind.
"Come with me. I will take you to the boss to confirm. If you are a spy or a jinx, get ready to rot in jail!" He scolded, and I knew this was my chance to run away. But I stubbornly followed him.
*What if Kenneth rejected me on the spot? What did he look like?*
My heart thundered against my rib cage, urging me to run away, to tell the security guard the truth—that I lied—but my legs stubbornly followed the security guard who led me into the second-floor booth.
The smell of tobacco and alcohol filled the air too, but the second floor was more cozy, as red light lit the space. Two strippers danced around the pole, wearing red bikinis, and my cheeks flushed as my gaze landed on them.
They were dancing seductively, and I shifted my gaze back to the table the security guard had led me to.
Three men sat around the table, and lo and behold, the man with the dark blue shirt sat there too, as his other companions wore white shirts and black trousers.
The security man quickly bowed to the man in the dark blue shirt and informed him, "Excuse me, Mr. Declan. This lady here claimed to be your fiancé, and she wanted to see you. But I am not sure. That's why I accompanied her here to confirm if she is telling the truth."
The two other men around the table froze before one burst out laughing hard.
"What the fụck? Kenneth, don't tell me you already moved on from Anna so quickly and even got engaged without telling us?" The first man with dirty blonde hair said as he sat on the right, beside the man in the dark blue shirt, whose expression hardened as his eyes met mine.
A cigarette hung between his lips as he smoked calmly. His lips remained shut, while the second man on the left spoke up, "Kenneth, what are you up to? Just a minute ago, you appeared broken, and now you are already engaged? Is this some trick to bring Anna back? Funny enough, she resembles Anna."
My gaze lowered as I knew that I was fake. How did I get myself into such big trouble?
"You two should leave. Let me find out what she wants here," Kenneth dismissed the two men, who frowned and surrendered.
"Alright. But you will tell us what you're up to later. Come on, Aaron. Let's go!" The man on the right stood up first, while the man on the left with brown hair stared at me coldly. His brows furrowed as he didn't seem to like me.
Kenneth parted the cigarette from his lips and asked the security guard, "What are you waiting for?"
"Sir, I only want to confirm if she is your fiancé."
"Since she said she is, you may leave us. Let me find out why she is here."
"Got it, sir." The security guard quickly scrambled away, and my heart thundered against my chest as I was left alone with the man.
