Chapter 29As the week ended, Sandy decided she needed to get back home to contact her other authors and get some other books sold.
“I should probably go back, too,” Darlene said. My heart sank.
“Really? Will you come back for the space launch?”
“That’s another week and a half.”
“Yes.”
Darlene paused. Didn’t she want to stay with me? “You want me here?” she said.
“Yes, please,” I replied. I wanted to yell, Yes, yes, yes! Definitely! More than everything! I wasn’t really scared, but I wanted to feel her hand in mine as a last thing here on Earth to remember while I was up there and a face to look forward to seeing on my return. I knew I would always remember her touch, but I wanted to feel it many more times before I launched.
