Arya
Finn's eyes are dead set on me, and the way he looks at me is frightening. They are so damn clear, laced with so much anger, that he sets his lips in a line.
“Arya!” Felix calls off, and I gasp as I place my attention back on him. I didn't even notice that he was no longer cleaning the wound.
Felix pulls me into a hug and snakes his hands around my waist. He lifts me off the floor and twirls me around before he takes us off the stage to the high table of the alpha and Luna. That makes me giggle and forget for a moment. My eyes focus on Felix’s warm blue ones. They are so f*****g warm and filled with so much wisdom. A reason I couldn’t help but fall for Felix when he approached me.
“You are officially Luna of the pack and wearing my mark. You did great!” Felix shouts, and the crowd cheers. The energy of the pack and the moon goddess is buzzing tonight. My mind link for the pack has opened up tonight, and it's busy tonight. Listening to their thoughts is already overwhelming for me, and I haven’t told anyone about this gift. I don’t want to be used as a weapon for war between packs. I prefer having a peaceful life as a normal wolf like everyone else, even though they do question from time to time why I am the only one in the pack with golden eyes. Not even an alpha has ever been seen with such a color before.
Honestly, besides my mind-reading, I don’t really know why either.
“Is it always like this with everyone else?” I ask.
‘No, we are special, Arya. The moon goddess needs us for a greater purpose.’ Mystic answers, and of course I roll my eyes. Mystic is usually spitting out bullshit these days.
I don’t want anything to do with the woman above.
“No, with each Luna it’s different, but yours was special. I felt the moon goddess’s power. It channeled through you, and the whole pack received a little amount. You are special, Arya, very special. The pack and I are lucky to have you as our mate.”
“But I don’t get it…” I trail, and Felix’s eyes darken.
“I know what you mean, but I wasn’t meant to be alpha too because that role was also for Finn,” Felix answers my doubts, and it finally clicks.
I was always meant to be in this position.
‘I told you,’
‘It doesn’t matter,’
As long as we keep hiding our secret, we will be safe.
Pack members pass by to congratulate me as well as Felix’s father, who happened to be the former alpha of the pack. Felix’s mom died when he was young, and his dad is the only parent he knew.
“Congratulations to you, Arya. When I felt the energy, I knew that the pack was in good hands.” His father, Alpha Hugo, says.
“Thank you, I will put in my best to take care of the pack,” I tell him at the same time Dad shows up.
Dad has the biggest smile on his face and makes me smile too. Seeing him so happy makes me the happiest daughter. I jump off the chair and into his arms.
“You did great, my sweet pop. I am so happy and proud of you. You will make the best Luna this pack has ever seen.” He tells me when we pull away. His brown eyes staring directly into mine.
“I know I will,” I answer all cocky, and Dad laughs.
“That’s my sweet pop.” He leans closer and whispers, “Remember what I told you, love.”
“I know, Dad, but you have nothing to worry about,” I assure him. Felix is a good man, and never once has he ever treated me badly. He makes me so damn happy.
Felix steals me away to sit on his lap, and he begins to feed me. In the werewolf community, the male feeding his female is a sign that he respects her and he will always put her first.
I eat from his hand the small fruits he puts in my mouth. My dad chats with former Alpha Hugo. The two seem close, and Mum is by Dad's side, listening quietly with a few smiles here and there as he feeds her. Benjamin has run off with the woman I saw him with earlier. If I am correct, he marked her even before it was announced that we should get marked. I don’t think I will be seeing him tonight.
The sound of heavy boots hitting the grass grabs my attention. I can feel the aura in the atmosphere, and it prickles my skin even before I turn to see who they belong to. That power that’s underneath the surface buzzes all through my skin, and I don't know if it’s just my body reacting or if it’s something he is doing with his wolf.
Mystic is on alert, very much alert, and very much defensive.
“Brother,” his voice has gotten so deep from the last time I heard it, and it compels me to look up at the man who has approached the high table.
Our eyes instantly meet, and I meet his gaze without breaking it.
“Finn, I am so glad you could be at our table.”
“I am glad too,” he curtly nods while his gaze is on me. He sits down without breaking eye contact, and when I feel Felix’s hand on my lips with the scent of meat flaring in my nostrils, I know I have stared at Finn for far too long.
His hair has grown thicker than before, and he has cut it shorter, only leaving the top of his head that covers the bald side. His eyes seem to look darker, and his body looks bigger than before. It’s as if he went on an extremely intense workout for the whole three years he was away before finally showing up.
He is making Felix look like a young boy compared to him. He has changed into a true alpha and he looks stronger than both Felix and his father. This man is not the one who ran away. He is a whole new version.
I begin to chew and focus my attention on the bowl of salad in front of me.
My eyes look at mum and she has an eyebrow raised.
Oh, f**k, she saw that.
I wonder what she is thinking?
Why is Arya staring at Finn too long? As if he interests her more than Felix? Her thoughts slip through, and I shut them out instantly.
Felix hands on my shoulders rubs me gently.
“Luna Arya,” I look up instantly at the mention of my name. The way the words roll off his tongue reminds me of old times, and I painfully shut them away. This man left me depressed for years, and I won’t let him ruin anything for me. I will stay out of his way as much as possible. “Congratulations on being Luna. My brother is lucky to have you as his mate.” He says. I nearly scoff at that. The words sound insulting coming from him when he was my mate—well, technically still is because his side of the bond is still intact while I shattered my side two years ago.
“Thank you so much.” My voice chirps and I force a smile on my face.
“You are welcome sister in law,” He smirks and I f*****g know this asshole is mocking me.
The Finn I knew was distant and usually the cold one to everyone but me. This time around it seems he changed to become a complete b***h!
I fake a smile, “You are welcome too brother-in-law.”
At this, he chuckles and the table gets quiet.
“Good mate you have there Felix. Congratulations once again brother.”
“Thanks, brother.”
Finn begins to eat like everyone else at the table and it gets quiet. Felix continues to feed me and then whispers in my ear how he can’t wait for us to leave this place and I giggle.
Finn clears his throat grabbing everyone’s attention.
“Oh sorry resume eating. I was just choking.” He smiles and it’s so damn fake. He fakes a cough too and I don’t buy it. The others seem to be as they resume their usual eating.
Conversation starts among the men at the table, and I choose not to participate. My focus is on the food right now and everyone’s face, especially Finn’s. Whose eyes are glaring at the mark on my neck?
I chose to hop into his thoughts instead. I need to know what he is thinking. I open my mind to him and him only.
And I hear nothing. f*****g nothing.
This is strange. I have always heard everyone's thoughts. I decide to try for the second time, and still nothing passes through.
I open my mind to my mum and she is thinking about the s*x she had with dad last night, eww. This is why I stay the f**k away. But why can’t I hear Finn’s thoughts?
Finn laughs probably at something one of the men said and his next words grab my attention.
“My time away helped me learn a lot of things. Did you know that there is a woman rumored to be the Gold Luna, and she can read minds? Imagine what would happen if we had her in this pack.”
My heart stops… stops. How does Finn know about this? It doesn’t matter. He can’t know it's me.
“Isn’t that meant to be a myth?” Felix asks.
Dad clears his throat. “I heard it was a myth too,”
“No, that she-wolf is very much real, and she might be living among us right now, but we just don’t know it.”
I look at Finn from Felix’s cheek, and Finn is intensely looking at me.
He can’t know it’s me, right?
