I shut her door behind me and stood in the corridor, taking a deep breath before moving quickly to my room.
Not that I had somewhere urgent to be, but because I needed to move, needed the physical act of walking to do something about the fact that my body was currently not cooperating with me.
Not in the slightest.
I was hard. Uncomfortably, embarrassingly hard, and all because a woman had dropped a towel in front of me for approximately four seconds before screaming at me to look away.
Which, in my defense, I did immediately, because I wasn't that kind of man.
But four seconds was apparently enough, because in shock, my mind had photographed every single detail in that time and was now replaying it on a loop with no intention of stopping.
It was the sinful curve of her waist, the soft lines of her stomach, and the way she'd dove for that towel with absolutely zero grace and somehow still managed to disarm me in ways no man ever had.
Oh, for f***s sake. I groaned, dragging a hand down my face, before turning the corner toward my wing.
I paused at my study door, finding it difficult to take my mind off her. I shouldn't be doing this. She was traumatized and still healing. She had signed a contract with me for safety, and the last thing she needed was me walking around thinking about her like…
Like what, exactly?
“Like she is our mate? And you know she is, even when your head is trying to be reasonable about it.” My wolf reasoned. He had been restless ever since the moment we found her scent at that border, and also the first time we ever perceived a scent.
And this morning had made it significantly worse. The moment that towel hit the floor, something in me had gone quiet and loud at the same time, and it had taken more effort than I was comfortable admitting to turn around and face that wall.
I wasn't expecting to see her that way. It was a mistake, nothing planned. But the image won't leave me now, and it made me even horny.
I pushed my study door open, went straight for the desk, and sat down.
I tried to focus on the huge pile of paperwork in front of me, but none of that was working.
I sat there, reading the same line almost four times before I gave up, slamming the pen on the desk and pushing back from the desk.
This was ridiculous. I was a grown man, an Alpha, and I had more self-control than this. I'd spent years controlling myself, years learning to function without the one thing every wolf took for granted, and I was not going to fall apart because of a darn towel.
I went to my room instead, slammed the door shut, and stood there for a moment.
Maybe a cold shower would help. So I did that. I stood in the shower for twenty whole minutes, and it did absolutely nothing.
My mind wouldn't cooperate because the only image it wanted to supply was the wrong one, or the right one, depending on how you looked at it, and I wasn't getting anywhere near relief without doing something else.
I gave up after an extra two minutes, leaving the bathroom with a towel tied around my waist.
I reached for my phone, despite the protest of my wolf, sending a quick text, and thirty minutes later, she arrived as prepared as always in revealing lingerie.
There was no need for any preparations or foreplay, and certainly no point pretending this was anything other than what it was, and she knew the arrangement well enough not to expect otherwise.
I reached for her, slamming her against my bed as she giggled, pulling me in, I tugged at her underwear, ripping it in two before thrusting into her roughly, a strained cry of pleasure spilling out of her full lips and a loud groan from mine.
I kept my eyes closed the whole time I thrusted deeper into her, not helping the image of Althea that clouded my brain.
My thrusting faltered as pleasure shot through my d**k. f**k.
I gripped her slender waist, and I could still hear her sharp intake of breath when she'd seen me standing in her room. The way she'd looked at me wrapped in that blanket afterward, furious and flushed, trying so hard to hold her dignity together but still sexy as hell.
God, this is bad. I quickened my pace, gripping Lena's waist tightly as she let out a moan that sounded almost like a whimper. I finished with my jaw tight, and my eyes still closed, Althea's name almost spilling from my lips.
Just as she came down from her climax, she tried reaching for me, and I withdrew from her.
"Get out," I said coldly, turning to get my clothes.
I can't believe I did that. What the f**k was wrong with me?
"Excuse me?" I opened my eyes, and she was still there, sitting up and looking at me with an expression that was somewhere between offended and genuinely surprised, like she'd expected something different entirely.
I didn't know what it was, but nothing was coming out of me. Not when my mind was this crowded by someone else. Someone who obviously had no reasons in seeing me that way apart from business.
"Was that it?" she arched a brow, adding a little sass. "You called me here just for s*x?"
"Yes, what more do you want?" I looked her up and down before reaching for my trousers.
She made a sound with her teeth, "You could have called one of your other women." She paused, looking at her nails, her tone loaded with something she thought was clever. "Like that new w***e you've got walking around your halls."
I froze. My hands were still on my belt as I shot her a cold look. Maybe it was how the temperature in the room dropped as I stalked closer to her that made her expression falter before I even opened my mouth to say a word.
"Say that again," I hissed quietly, a growl growing in my chest," and your place in this pack would becomes very uncomfortable real quickly."
Her eyebrows shot up in shock as she swallowed, scared, shifting away from me
"Do you understand me?" I growled that part out, and she nodded again. Her mouth closed. She grabbed her things without another word and dashed for the door, shutting it behind her with more force than necessary, her footsteps sharp and retreating down the corridor.
I stood there in the quiet, already dressed, before I dropped on my back on the bed and stared at the ceiling, heaving out a frustrated sigh.
Althea…
It hadn't worked, and I hated this. I was thinking a release would wipe her out of my mind. Maybe I needed a quick f**k, but it didn't help, and I was starting to accept it that way. Not until a particular image came to my mind. One I had caught faintly but was too caught up in the moment to focus on it.
It sat with me, though, and my mind kept circling around it. When I'd turned around this morning, before she'd yanked the blanket over herself, I'd seen more than just her.
I'd seen the marks that littered her skin. They looked like faded bruises, the one along her side that hadn't fully gone yet, and a scar near her hip that looked like it was older than the other ones.
It was disturbing, and the worst was that I didn't know if they came from the forest on the night of her escape or if they came from Darkmoon itself.
Instantly, a cold furious, feeling settled over me with the thought of Nolan causing those marks.
I reached for my phone and dialed Sera's number. She picked up on the second ring.
"Take Althea to the pack hospital today," I told her straight forward, "Let her get a full examination. I want every injury documented and treated properly."
There was a brief pause from the other line before she spoke. "Does she know?"
"Tell her it's standard procedure as a Luna. She doesn't need to know it came from me."
I hung up and set the phone down on my chest. The ceiling stared back at me.
