Chapter 20: Tiamat

"What is the Chaotic Configuration and where is it?" Jamie asked, her eyes narrowing. They had gotten to the crux of the matter, what the sisters wanted.
"Aunty Vanth could tell you..." Pigritia said sleepily before turning on her side and going back to sleep. Tracker squeaked in protest before curling up on Pigritia’s pillow and going back to sleep.
"Well, I am asking you!" Jamie said impatiently.
Superbia said, "The chaotic configuration is said to be made from the claw of the primordial chaos creature,"
"The primordial chaos creature is but a myth that Gods tell their children to make them behave!" Jamie snapped.
"Really, is that what you think?" Superbia said and the rest of the sisters chuckled.
"Yes! Everyone knows the story. The primordial creature, Tiamat, was the first child of the father light and the mother universe. Their child grew, and so did its power and appetite. Father Light and Mother Universe became worried, as Tiamat was consuming everything they created. One day, after Tiamat tried to consume light itself, Father light and Mother Universe decided to imprison their child. They created the void, a place of complete nothingness, to imprison Tiamat. They put Tiamat in there and it is where they have remained ever since. " Jamie said.
"I see that your parents have taught you the story well. But you left two important parts out. First, Tiamat gave birth before she was imprisoned. Her children were, of course, the first demons. "
"How can that be, when the empress is the twin of my father?" Jamie said, suddenly feeling very hot.
"Tiamat infected the process with her blood. Your father, being the Sun God, would have naturally burned off the blood. The Empress was unable to and it gave her great power." Superbia explained,
"Oh, I see. What was the other point? " Jamie said, feeling nauseous.
"Are you OK?" Vanth asked, concerned.
"...don’t know..it feels like that time when my body accessed memories I needed after I died." Jamie said. She remembered that when her Goddess part fully awoke, it took time for her to be able to recall everything.
In the battle to imprison their child, Father Light and Mother Universe injured Tiamat. This resulted in a scale and a claw being cut off. They were found by one of her children and with powerful magic, turned into a chaotic configuration. A box, once opened, can imprison any being, including Gods. The second is a canalis. "
"A what?" Jamie asked, she had never heard of the term before.
"A canalis. An object which syphons power and multiplies it. Most of the time it is an object necklace or a ring. This one however is a statue and can amplify anyone's power by a least a thousand times."
Suddenly, a roaring sound filled Jamie’s ears as a powerful memory flashed in her mind. Jamie woke up to find herself in complete darkness. She shifted her eyes into a cat‘s and she could see that there were thousands of skulls of different creatures on the floor. Fear filled her body as she heard a low growl. Every cell in her body was telling her to hide, but there was nowhere to hide.
"Tell me, Moonchild, what keeps you fighting? Surely, it is not your pathetic mate! " The voice growled.
"He is not pathetic!"Jamie snapped back, as she tried to call her fire element, but there was no reply.
"Yet he let you be banished here, Moonchild. He has deserted you and is mating with others! Your sacrifice is pointless. " The voice said mockingly.
You lie! He is waiting for me, they both " Jamie, shouted.
"Both? This is very intriguing. You must be a future version of the Moonchild. How does it feel to know this is the fate awaiting you? " The voice said
"Fates are not fixed!" Jamie hissed.
"Maybe, but no matter what time period you are from, you will die all the same, like countless times before. Unless, of course, you join me! " The voice said as Jamie suddenly saw seven pairs of glowing yellow eyes. From previous lives, Jamie realised that the skulls underneath her feet were in fact her own. As a goddess, she would have been reborn only to be killed over and over. Jamie was shifting into a bear when she heard a familiar voice coming out of the darkness.
"Come back to me, darling, please. Follow my voice and come back to me. " Eric said.
"Eric! It is Eric! " Jamie thought as she saw a small ball of light filtering towards her.
"Come on, fire sprite, come back. I need you, my trickster queen. Your light guides me..." Eric’s voice said as the white light sparkled.
"No, you will not escape me!" The voice growled as a huge open mouth, with sharp-pointed teeth, came out of the darkness,
"As your darkness binds me," Jamie said, as she touched the light with a huge bear paw.
Jamie felt a warm sensation all over her body and a jolt. When she opened her eyes, she saw a concerned pair of grey eyes looking down at her. "Eric? Thank the Gods! " Jamie said as she sat up and hugged him hard. “I missed you so much. So, so much!”
"Oh fire sprite, you shouldn't have.." Eric began to say. But he was interrupted by Jamie crashing her lips onto his. They both felt their mate bond strengthen as they kissed. Unconsciously, their hands roamed over each other's bodies, checking for injuries. Satisfied Jamie was unhurt, he broke the kisses and asked, "You shouldn't have come. Raoul is counting on it and the Empress has half of the Chaos army looking for you! "
"I couldn't leave you here!" Jamie said as she placed a hand on his heart. Eric felt his mate mark tingle as Jamie was transferring more of her power over to him. He felt a surge of energy as he felt the protective and healing runes in his mate mark being strengthened.
Eric tried to remove her hand and said, "You need to stop doing that, Fire Sprit, I am fine!"
"Nonsense, you are her fated mate. It is an instinct to protect you. Besides, you don't think being struck by chaos lightning has done no damage to the protective runes on you, do you? Though I must say, any other protective rune would have been obliterated! Could you two kiss again for me? I haven't had such a good meal in years! " Tentigo said, smiling. Jamie tried not to blush. It was obvious that Tentigo had been feeding off the lustful energy they had been admitting.
"Quite sister, you are too much sometimes! What we need to find out is where you went. " Iracundia said angrily.
Tentigo rolled her eyes and muttered, "Killjoy!"
"Gone? I didn't go anywhere...I just had memory emerge that is all." Jamie said confused.
"Incorrect, your soul went somewhere. We had to call loverboy here to call you back or you would have been lost!" Superbia said.
"She is right; you left your body and I could not follow you!" Vanth mindlink.
"The power of your mating bond is extraordinary! The meer sound of the human’s voice brought you round!" Tentigo said with a sigh,
"But... but that means..." Jamie said
"Yes, Fire Sprite?" Eric encouraged
"It means I was back in the void!" Jamie said, her voice full of fear.
