The drive to the little, coastal town that captured my heart was a grueling and long one and even though the humid and salty air brings my senses into life, my body feels like a wreck and my mind even more fogged. I sigh as Liam finally drifts into a sleep, his tiny body jerking and becoming heavy against my chest as Theo snores softly from his cot. I can’t help but notice the bags under their eyes and the small frowns painted against their faces. Have I done the right thing? My arms struggle and shake as I lay Liam down carefully in his own cot and then I move out of the room.
