"Why did you agree to help her?" Sharon asked. "She needed help," Melanie said that bluntly. "And you knew how bad it was because you had been with Sam DaCosta?" Sharon asked. Melanie nodded. "He was extremely violent; I knew that. Adriana tracked me down because she wanted to know what I had done to get out. All she wanted was to get out, and I forced her to leave her daughter. It was a fit of blind jealousy. I did not even know that was what it was back then. I would do anything now to change it." It was not the story that Sharon had expected to hear, but it made sense now. Most of the crimes in the world are committed either because of love or money. This time, love, or at least a relationship that had been carried out under the pretense of love, had driven to something dangerous. N
