CHAPTER 1
THE PROPHECY Waking up to the sun streaming in my eyes, I heard the birds chirping outside. The fresh scent of the forest filled the room, and the wind rustled through the trees, making the leaves dance. This was Luxoria, the village that had taken me in. The tall, ancient trees and the bustling forest were its favorite features, and the village seemed to be at one with the forest around it. The buildings, made of stone and wood, were sturdy and strong, and the cobblestone streets were lined with dried flowers from the trees. The village was small, but it felt like home, even as I knew I was not fully accepted. As I sat up on the wooden bed and looked out the window, I could see the waterfall in the distance. The mountains were covered in snow, even though it was summer, and they glistened in the sunlight. I felt a sense of wonder and gratitude to be in this place, far away from the troubles of the world, in as much as I had a feeling of wonder and curiosity as to how life would have been outside Luxoria The weather was nice in Luxoria today and I wondered if it was a nice way to start my morning, I had to see Ama, I had questions and I knew she would be the only one that would answer my questions, Ama turned out to be the oldest woman in Luxoria and the most respected woman, she was the Alpha's aunt and I was happy to have a powerful person by my side I walked past the Raoul and all I saw was disgust on their faces "Good morning" I greeted and it seemed I was sending a message into the void, a black hole of unanswered questions. I wondered if my message was even received, or even heard, that wasn't why I came out of my hut, I thought to myself as I walked past them shrugging off their demeaning comments I had always longed to be loved both by the villagers and the parents I never got to know. Walking down the cobblestone street, it felt so surreal, like I was in another realm Isn't she the outcast??" A voice said as I passed the river, I was used to the treatment I got from the villagers and as such their derogatory comments did not get to my head As I stepped into Ama's house, I was greeted by the warm and comforting smell of baking bread and I could tell right away that she was making breakfast. The old wooden floors creaked slightly as I walked towards where Ama stood and the house was filled with the sound of crackling fire from the hearth. The walls were lined with musty books filled with volumes of every kind, it was then I realized that Ama loved to read. The room was cozy and Inviting and I could see few werewolf's furs at the edge of the room, it was so easy to imagine how much love and care had gone into creating this space. Ama sat in an armchair by the fire, knitting a scarf, barely noticing my presence "Good morning Ama" I greeted as I found my favorite spot beside her, looking up at this woman, I felt utterly grateful that there was someone that liked me in this village .I was fully aware of the treatment given to me by the villagers and always acted obnoxious, because I felt all I had to do was to be grateful for being accepted. I knew I was a rare kind but I believed they were others like me out there, this believe stirred my urge to leave Luxoria. I became an outcast for having blue eyes, and could totally understand the hatred the villagers had towards me "Perhaps it was jealousy" I thought to myself "You sure have grown, I'm not sure I would recognize you if I get older than this age" Ama said coughing as I stood up to get her a glass of water, Ama had gotten so old and I suspected that she would be dying soon. " I'm curious to know how Luxoria was before I came in". I said to Ama staring into her vague eyes. "Luxoria had always been a peaceful place, the then Alpha, Caleb who was my twin brother, gave up his life to protect his son because he felt Alex was the chosen one sent to liberate the people". Ama said making me a bit more confused, it seemed she was talking to a hole as I was lost in her words. "Prophecy" , I said to Ama as I had stood up to return the glass In which I had brought the water to her. "Tell me about it Ama" *** A prophecy was told to the villagers in luxoria who at that time knew little about werewolves, that the world would change someday and werewolves would not only shift into wolves, but a new kind of werewolf would be born, a werewolf who could shift into any form the heart desired and it would be the chosen one. Nobody believed the prophecy and they all scoffed at the words the seer had said. It was then regarded as a fairy tale and was told to growing kids, they saw it akin to sorcery. "Who still believes in sorcery these days?" I scoffed at the thought of it and then turned to listen to Ama. At that time, the Alpha, Caleb and his wife Amelia, who were expecting, believed that the child Amelia carried was the chosen one sent to liberate the people from the "untamed Horde" a group of werewolves bent on taking over the shadow packs. They crowned their child the Alpha's successor while still in the womb. Days after the prophecy and only days before Alex's birth, the untamed Horde attacked again, even more fiercely than before. It turned out that they had a mole within the shadow packs. The rangers in charge of the village sighted torches in the distance and heard chanting noises as they approached. When they got closer, they realized it was the "untamed Horde" . Xavier, the leader of the rangers, went to Uriah, the youngest ranger. "Go, get the Alpha, let him know that we have been attacked, live your life boy, you have a long way to go, i and the other rangers will buy you time, make sure to get the villagers to a safe place". And with that he ran into the night as his little legs could take him. "Alex was born few days after we escaped the village successfully and the queen, Amelia passed away on giving birth, Caleb and the rest that were left behind were never heard of again. The rite of making Alex the Alpha was performed. "And what about the prophecy?" I asked as I was more aroused by the story Ama said With each passing day, Alex grew to be a young boy, everyone had expectations of him, Uriah would train him for days, yet he never transformed into another shape or form, he was just there like every other ordinary wolf in the pack, the only thing that made him exceptional was that he was the Alpha. The prophecy was further regarded as a fairy tale, and it hasn't been spoken of till your birth". "What about my birth? And what does it have to do with the prophecy?" "You seemed to have everything the prophecy said, your eyes were.... you were different." "How different am I?" I asked Ama, my voice trembling. I knew I was different, but I didn't understand why people looked at me with such disgust. The color of my eyes had always been the source of my alienation, but now I wondered if there was something more. "I can't shift into my wolf form, even though I'm well past the age when most werewolves are able to do so. What is wrong with me?" I pleaded with Ama, hoping she could provide some answers. "I cannot provide the answers you need as to what is wrong with you, but I can sense that you are special, perhaps you are the prophecy" Ama said, stretching out her hands to pat my head as I drew closer to where she sat.
