Chapter 2: Ousted
“What?” Lyra stood transfixed on the spot, her mouth opened in shock. What was Lucian talking about, how on earth would she cheat on him, and that too with his brother Jake for that matter?
Just before she could say any more word, she was interrupted by a beautiful woman dressed elegantly marching towards them with grace and class betraying the furious look on her face
Lyra’s chest tightened seeing her mother-in-law walking angrily towards her. Rebecca stopped in front of Lyra, a second later the sound of a slap echoed through the room
“Mother, what have I done?” Lyra held her cheek in surprise
“How dare you take your disgusting self to seduce my son Jake!” Rebecca gripped Lyra's hair and pulled her toward the center table where the divorce papers were placed
“I've never liked you from the onset because I know your kind. You pretend to be all innocent and naive just to rip people off their hard-earned money”
“Mother I don't know what’s going on” Lyra cried helplessly already becoming overwhelmed by the sudden turns of events
She looked towards Lucian for help but he just ignored her and turned towards the person sitting beside him affectionately
“Jessica…” Lyra gasped in surprise. She glanced back at Lucian in disbelief, how did she not notice her presence all along?
Why was Lucian's ex-girlfriend in their home? Didn't she abandon him and leave the country?
“L-lucian” Lyra called out to him with a shaking voice, afraid of offending him further “How is she here?”
“What gave you the right to think you can ask any questions here you slut! But if you must know, she's here to take her rightful place beside Lucian which you connivingly took with your deceit” Rebecca thundered
“You had better sign the divorce papers before you see a worse version of me”
Lyra’s breath got stuck in her throat, her stomach churned and she could feel the pile rising to her throat. She felt nauseous
Before anyone could say a thing she quickly ran to the restroom closest to the living room and emptied the contents of her stomach, her tears blurring her vision
She weakly walked into the sitting room her eyes on Lucian, observing how he was all over Jessica.
She knew right there and then that she was fighting a lost battle, one she could never win not with Jessica as her opponent
“Lucian, it’s not true? You're not back together with her?” Lyra stared expectedly at him,
“Yes, I am. Now sign the divorce papers and get the hell out of my house. I can't stand the sight of you for even a minute longer”
Lyra stumbled back and slumped to the ground as her legs felt too weak to contain her weight.
“ Did you make all this up just to get rid of me and be with the woman you love?” Lyra asked in disbelief
“Enough of this madness woman! Sign these papers and get your miserable self out of my family this instant “ Rebecca barked
“No, I won't. Lucian, I love you and would never cheat on you. If you don't believe me why don't you ask Jake, he'll tell you the truth.” Lyra tried reasoning with him
Just in time as though he was summoned Jake walked in with Alice, Lyra’s best friend
Relieve washed over Lyra's features when she saw Jake coming in, at last someone would be able to put an end to this nightmare
“Jake please tell Lucian that we've never been intimate and I'd never cheat on him” With tears in her eyes she dragged him toward Lucian where he was standing beside Jessica
Lyra looked at Jake and saw how devastated he looked, he's head was bowed down as though he was guilty of a crime
Lyra wasn't in the mood to ponder about his mood at the moment as she was about to lose her marriage if this issue wasn't resolved promptly
“Jake say something why are you been this way” she urged him to clear the air immediately
“ I'm sorry brother, please forgive me. I couldn't resist her seduction, I know I shouldn't have done that with my brother’s wife but I'm only a young man with blood flowing through my veins. There's a limit to what I could handle”
Lyra swiped her head towards Jake in shock, what was he saying
She glanced at her husband whose eyes were shut tightly. She let out a gasp when Lucian's bloodshot eyes stared back at her with murder intent
Before anyone could react, Rebecca began to rain slaps at Lyra from various angles until Alice and Jessica came to her rescue
“You this wicked vixen. It wasn't enough that you drugged one son to have your way with, you had the nerve to seduce and take advantage of my younger son. Is it your mission to ruin my family” she shouted at Lyra trying to get out of Jake's hold to do more damage to her already bruised face
“You all come here and hold this witch down!” She shouted at the domestic staff who immediately got into action
With their assistance, Rebecca held Lyra’s hand and forced her to sign the divorce papers much to her dismay
“ Now get out of this house and I never want to see you anywhere near my family ever again or else you'll rot in jail for marriage fraud”
Meanwhile, Lucian ignored her as he couldn't bring himself to look at her fear-filled face and not fall for her schemes again
Lyra let out a cry when Rebecca suddenly grabbed her by the hair and pulled her towards the door. She glanced at Lucian for help but was blatantly ignored, left with no choice she had to follow Rebecca to lessen the pain. When they got to the door she was roughly pushed out with her luggage thrown alongside her.
