There had to be a joke somewhere about grown men holding their breaths as they tiptoed out of a room, Roxie thought in amusement, following behind them, not bothering to quiet her steps because she knew with the confidence of a parent that not even an earthquake could rouse the two boys on the bed. They were out cold, TJ starfished on the left side of the bed, and Josiah drooling on the right, soft snores filling the silence. Roxie had to stand at the foot of the bed and just watch for a long moment. It was the first time in months that she wouldn’t be sharing a room with her son.
