Lucas looked confused, like he couldn’t understand her question. “Honesty,” he said simply, sipping his espresso as if he hadn’t just verbally dismembered a woman in public. “That wasn’t honesty,” Roxie said, incredulous. “That was-you just bullied a waitress with a botany metaphor.” He still looked unbothered. “I dislike interruptions. Especially when I’m doing something very important.” He gave her a pointed look. Roxie ignored the message in that look and focused on the matter at hand. “You humiliated her!” Lucas shook his head. “No. I set a boundary.” Roxie stared at him, a mix of horror and, god help her, a flicker of fascination. “You really don’t care what people think, do you?” Thank god the rest of the patrons in the coffee shop had gone back to minding their own business.
