My breath caught as I watched the compass pointer spin violently at Amber’s touch.
Glowing symbols I never even knew the device had, pulsed at the edges with a low blue light, and the pointer continued to spin with chaotic speed.
“What the hell?” I exclaimed, pulling back from it in shock.
Amber also flinched, shaken by my reaction. She dropped the compass on the bed.
And to my surprise the moment the damn thing touched down, it stilled.
Her wide eyes stared at the compass as the silence grew heavy above us. But my eyes remained on her with a renewed interest.
“I— was that supposed to happen?” She whispered, her voice a little shaky. “It didn’t do that when you held it.”
My fingers flexed beside me, but I didn’t respond immediately. I couldn’t.
