CHAPTER 1 - MATING CEREMONY GONE WRONG
AMBER
It was so f*****g beautiful.
I could literally feel the butterflies fluttering in my belly as I spun around the exquisite suite that Mason had booked for our night together. It had a sparkling chandelier, cozy velvet chairs and a giant bed with silky blue sheets.
The annual Intercollegiate Hockey Championship hosted by my school, Greenfield High had been a success right from the start and for the first time in our history, we were in the finals of the tournament.
My boyfriend, Mason, who was the son of the Pack's Alpha and captain of our school's hockey team had organized a house party to celebrate our success so far and he invited elites from all the schools that had participated in the tournament.
That morning, I almost could not believe my luck. A twenty one year old Omega, mated to the son of the Alpha and standing in the most beautiful room I had ever seen in my life. It seemed like something out of a movie.
"Let's go downstairs and find the others," my best friend, Stephanie grunted, pulling me out of my train of thoughts.
"I know," I squealed in excitement and spun around. "But this room is so beautiful!"
"Yeah, but you don't want to give him the impression that you're over excited," She shot back. "He'll think you're cheap."
I frowned upon the realization that she was right. As excited as I was to be at the first house party of my life, I had to remain composed.
"Fine," I muttered. "Let's go."
Together, we made our way down the stairs and joined some of our school mates who were already drinking and dancing in the living room.
"Speaking of Mason," Stephanie started. "Isn't he supposed to be here already?"
"Yeah," I giggled in excitement. "He must be preparing for the big reveal, remember?"
"Yeah yeah, big reveal," She rolled her eyes. "He's been saying that for ages now. Last month, it was the art mural. Now it's - "
"Steph!" I groaned.
"Sorry," She muttered. "But he's been promising to show you publicly as his mate since last semester."
I frowned at her and she continued.
"Kinda makes me feel like he's ashamed of you, Amber."
If not that Stephanie Crosby was my childhood bestie and I knew her well enough, I would have thought she was jealous of me.
I knew she was being overly protective and there was literally nothing I could tell her to get her to believe that Mason was not like the other guys.
"It's tonight," I smiled. "He's announcing me as his mate tonight."
"Oh, he'd better," She muttered. "Or I'll bite off his pretty ears."
I chuckled at her pessimism and tugged at her hands.
"Come on, let's dance," I said.
"No way," She frowned. "We're both horrible at dancing and you know it."
"Yes," I nodded. "But we promised ourselves a less nerdy and more fun night."
"I'm not nerdy. You are."
"Whatever," I giggled and dragged her into the crowd.
The next minute, I was twirling my body to the rhythm of the loud music blaring from the speakers while Stephanie looked on, amazed.
The hall was brimming with students - sons and daughters of Alphas, Betas and important pack personnel, and one look at Stephanie's face, I could tell that she felt so out of place here. I felt the same way too, but I had to try my best to blend in, if I wanted to be the Luna of the pack someday.
I moved over to where she stood and wrapped my arms around her neck.
"Maybe I should find Mason," I whispered in her ears. "Get the mating ceremony done with and get the hell out of here."
She heaved a sigh of relief and I chuckled.
"Thank you," She muttered.
I nodded and spun around slowly to begin my search. It was already a few minutes past 11 p.m. and I had not seen him yet. He had not returned any of my calls either.
It suddenly hit me that something bad might have happened to him after all. It was unlike Mason to not be the center of attraction at a party.
I made my way up the stairs and I knocked on the door of the first room before pushing it open.
I frowned at the sight of them - Mason's group of friends and hockey teammates. For some reason they all hated me. I didn't like them either, but if there was anyone who could help me find him at the moment, it was them.
I heaved a deep sigh and walked up to the gang.
"Hey," I muttered. "Anyone seen Mason tonight?"
I could feel their cold gazes on me and I barely resisted the urge to turn on my heels and leave the room. Finally, one of them answered.
"Haven't seen him the whole night," He shrugged. "Probably trying his best to stay away from you."
The group burst out laughing at his rude remark and I felt even more unwelcome. I wished I could tell them that they were wrong, that things were not the way they thought between myself and Mason. I wished I could explain to them how much he adored me, and made me feel special, but I could not. They were all crackheads and they were never going to believe or understand the concept of love.
I turned on my heels and made my way out of the room amidst their laughter.
I scanned the next two rooms quickly and I regretted my actions because on both occasions, I had to apologize for interfering with a four man orgy.
After searching all the rooms on the second floor to no avail, a thought finally slipped through my head. Mason had promised to give me the night of my life when he finally claimed me as his mate, and now he was missing...
I connected the dots quickly and I felt a tender ache between my thighs at the imagination of my extremely hot Alpha boyfriend, waiting for me on the bed in our exclusive suite.
That was definitely it! He wanted to surprise me!
I giggled, my cheeks burning bright red as the lustful thoughts filled my head and the next second, I was sprinting towards the stairs to reach the top floor.
I paused when I got to the door of our suite and I took a deep breath. I smoothed my red gown and removed the band from my auburn hair, allowing it to fall freely across my shoulders. I had to look perfect for him tonight.
It took me another minute to muster the courage to push the door open, and it was in that moment that my carefully crafted world came crashing down.
Because right before my very eyes was my boyfriend, Mason, his sweaty and stark naked body entangled with the school Queen bee and head cheerleader, Amy.
