CHAPTER 2 - FAKE DATING THE HOCKEY ALPHAS

1810 Words
AMBER My heart sank in an instant. I took a deep breath and shut my eyes tight. It was nothing more than a dream and all I had to do was wait a few seconds and it would be over. But when my eyes opened again, they were still together, and worse still, staring at me like I was crazy! "Ma - Mason," I stuttered. "What is this?" "What does it look like?" Amy chuckled. "Or did you get those glasses on thrift like your gown?" I glanced down at my beautiful dinner gown and just like that, it looked like rags. "At least you got to share him with me for a while," Amy shrugged. "That has to count for something, right?" My ears perked up as I tried to understand where she was heading. "I - I - don't understand," I stammered. "Ugh," She scoffed and rolled her eyes. "Take a good look at yourself, Amber." I knew I was being stupid but at that moment, I couldn't help but look at myself again. "And I don't mean in that thrift gown which is actually better than your normal school outfit," She continued. "I mean, take a good look at yourself on a regular school day. You're always dressed up like my grandma - oversized purple sweater and an extra long green skirt. Your hand is always up whenever a question is asked in Chemistry class! Worse still, you're the daughter of the Pack's plumber. Your dad literally has s**t on his hands all day. Why do you think the Alpha's son would want to date someone like you?" I was left frozen to the spot in shock as Amy tongue lashed me. "I needed someone to help with my Chemistry project," She ranted on. "So I made my boyfriend, Mason find a worthy dog." My heart shattered in my chest as the memories of all the nights I had spent helping Mason and his "friend" with their projects came crashing through my mind. Tears welled up in my eyes at the painful realization - I had been used and discarded like thrash. Mason Richards never loved me. He never had plans to announce me as his mate. His friends must have known that he was playing me. Heck, everyone at the school must have known! But no one said a word about it to me. They pretended to envy me in public and laughed at my stupidity whenever they hovered together to gossip. The tears were rolling down my cheeks already and the couple watched in bed without a care in the world. "It's not that deep, Amber," Mason chuckled. "But I'm certain that the moon goddess made a mistake in our mating bond." I glared hard at Mason. Tears were already glistening around the corner of my eyes. "Please, don't do this to me," I whimpered. "Don't break me this way." Mason chuckled once again and just like that, he uttered the words that I had always dreaded to hear. "I, Alpha Mason Richards of the Greenfield Pack rejects you, Amber Moon." He looked up at me, expectantly and I nodded, knowing what was required of me. "I, Amber Moon of the Greenfield pack, accept your rejection." And just like that, the bond snapped. The mate bond that I had held onto so dearly, for the last two years of my life was gone in a few minutes. Without another word, I spun around and ran out of the room. Tears streamed down my cheeks as I made my way down the stairs and I would have ran all the way home if not that Stephanie sighted me coming. "Hey, slow down girl," She said, stopping me in my tracks. "Where the hell do you think you're going?" She noticed the tears streaming down my face and she spun around quickly, searching for any sign of danger. "What's wrong, Amber?" She frowned. "Talk to me." "Mason," I sobbed. "And Amy." "What's up with Mason?" She pressed on. "We - we were never dating," I stuttered. "He used me." I sobbed on, as more images of the sleepless nights I'd endured to help with their projects flashed through my mind. Stephanie's fingers clenched into fists and she bared her fangs. "I swear I'll crack that bastard's skull," She growled and started towards the stairs. I grabbed her by the arm and pulled her back even though I knew she could not stand up to Mason. "It's fine," I muttered. "You don't have to." "No it's not," She scoffed. "And he's not even handsome anyways." Her comment brought a warm smile back to my face. Of course, Mason Richards was the most handsome guy in the pack. My best friend just wanted to make me feel better. "Thank you, Steph," I managed a smile. She took my hand and led me out of the lodge and away from the party. "Where are you taking me?" I whined. "Away from the worst set of people at our school," She grunted. "We're going to have fun, trust me." I followed her lead and together, we crossed the road, heading in the opposite direction. Eventually, she halted at the glass door of a bar and turned her attention to me. "Ready for the best night of your life?" Before I could even register my complaint, she grabbed me by the arm and pulled me into the bar with her. We walked up to the bartender's counter and I was surprised when she ordered a shot. In a few minutes, we had already gulped down enough alcohol to make us tipsy. The floor was spinning beneath my feet and every single joke Stephanie whispered in my ears was enough to make me cackle. She beckoned for the bartender and I watched with a wry smile as she whispered something in his ears. He nodded, seemingly understanding her instructions and tapped my arm gently. "This way, ma'am," He smiled. "Where are you taking me?" I mumbled and turned to face her. "Where is he taking me?" "Somewhere you can relax your nerves," She whispered in my ears. "Come on, follow him." "This is a bad idea," I mumbled, my speech slurred. "You always have bad ideas." The bartender helped me to my feet and over the next few minutes, he led me down a maze of interconnecting rooms. Finally, he stopped at a door and handed over a note and a few dollar bills to me. "Just knock twice," He said before leaving. I wanted to ask him what exactly I was doing in the room but he was gone in a flash. I hesitated at the door for a second, and just when I finally decided to knock on the door, a sudden wave of tiredness hit me. And the last thing I remembered was crashing down to the floor. ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** It was the faint sunlight seeping through the curtains that eventually woke me up the next morning. My head was still banging from the previous night's hangover. I glanced down and noticed that I was wearing an oversized brown pyjamas that certainly wasn't from my wardrobe. And then, it hit me. I never actually went home! I stared into space, as I tried to piece the events together. After the heartbreaking disappointment at Mason's party, Stephanie and I had gone to the bar, gulped down a few shots, and that was all I could remember. How the hell did I end up in this room? As I struggled to my feet, I heard the sound of male voices coming from the balcony. I sprang up from the bed just as the adjoining door swung open and I stared in utter shock at the devilishly handsome faces of the quadruplets standing before me. Zac, Ethan, Toby and Jamie Everdale, the quadruplet sons of the Alpha of the Everdale Pack and stars of Everdale High's hockey team - the very same team that my school, GreenField High was meant to play in the finals, later in the day! Just then, a sharp and strong musky scent wafted through the air. I heard my wolf purr in my head and at once, I felt the irresistible pull towards the handsome devils standing before me. My legs turned to jelly as I slowly realized what was going on and I held onto the drawer to keep myself from falling. Why was the moon goddess playing such cruel games with me? How could the Everdale quadruplets be my second chance mates? The same quadruplets who in less than a month of their stay at our pack had shamelessly established themselves as casanovas! I took a step back, as they inched closer to me. "I can't do this!" I cried. "I can't!" The brothers seemed to be enjoying the effect of their gaze on me because a slow smile spread across their faces. "Do what?" Zac, the first of the quadruplets asked. "I can't have you as my mate!" I cried. "I, Amber Moon of the Greenfield pack reject all four of you as my mates!" The brothers glared hard at me for a long time. It was probably the first time they were getting rejected in their life. "And we happily accept your rejection," Zac shrugged. I almost could not believe my ears. They accepted my rejection? "You accept it?" I stared at them in disbelief. "Then why did you bring me here?" "We found you outside," Toby explained. "With a note and a few dollar bills." "A - A note?" I stuttered. "Yes, a note," Ethan chipped in. "And it said - I want you to ravish me until I forget all about him." I felt my cheeks flush as the missing pieces of the puzzle fit in. I could remember everything now - Stephanie's jokes, the bartender leading me to the door, and me falling to the floor, totally drunk. To help me forget about Mason, she had tried to get me laid, but not with any random guy! She had tried to hook me up with the notorious Everdale quadruplets! I gasped as I thought about what I had unknowingly given them the consent to do, and when I looked down at my legs, Zac chuckled. "You're not our type," He blurted out. "So if that's what you're thinking, then the answer is no." I felt a mixture of relief and sadness at his words, but I didn't show it. "Thank you for helping me last night," I muttered. "I'll be leaving now." "Not yet," Ethan growled. "We have a proposal for you." My heart stopped beating for a moment. "A proposal?" I frowned. "Yes of course," Zac responded with a low chuckle. "We want you to be our fake date for the rest of our stay here."
