AMBER The weekend came quicker than I thought it would. All week, time had moved in this strange way, almost as if every tick of the clock was pulling me closer to something I couldn’t escape. No matter how much I tried to distract myself with schoolwork, conversations with Stephanie, or meaningless little chores, the thought of the mask and what it could mean sat in my mind. I had made up my mind. Whatever this journey was supposed to be, I was part of it now, and there was no turning back. That morning, I stood in front of my closet, staring at my clothes as though they might hold some sort of answer. What do you even wear to go searching for an ancient mask hidden by the moon goddess? I didn’t know, so I settled for something simple—jeans, a black T-shirt, and my worn-out sneakers.
