Stephanie’s explanation made me even more confused than before. My heart raced as I searched her face.
“Steph… What do you mean by ‘you are my guardian’?” I asked, unable to digest it.
Rather than respond immediately, she got to her feet. “I have to leave, there is something I need to do.”
“Stephanie?” I called, hurrying to my feet too.
But she neither stopped nor turned back. She just left me to think whatever I wanted.
