AMBER
Zac's call came in the moment I prepared to leave for the game.
"Don't move an inch," He ordered. "I'll send someone to pick you up."
I wanted to protest but he hung up the call almost immediately. I growled in frustration and walked up to the mirror to assess myself one last time.
I could barely recognize the girl staring back at me. I had chosen an elegant white chiffon gown that hugged every curve I usually kept hidden. The off-shoulder gown revealed my flawless collarbone, and my cleavage peeked seductively from the deep V-line. Around my neck hung a diamond necklace, embedded with glinting white gems, and it was paired perfectly with matching earrings that shimmered under my every move. The gown ended with a cloud of white fur above my thighs, similar to the beige fur scarf draped over my arms. A beige mini purse rested in one hand, completing my outfit with matching winter boots. For the first time, in my life, I radiated a kind of beauty and confidence I never knew I possessed.
Just then, I remembered that I had still not heard from Stephanie. I dialed her line and she picked up at the first ring.
"Oh my God, I'm so sorry," She drawled. "I was just about to call you."
From her tone, I could tell that she had been wasted as well.
"Yeah," I muttered. "Thanks for abandoning me at a f*****g bar."
"At least you enjoyed your night," She chuckled. "Tell me, how was the experience?"
"Are you kidding me?" I snapped. "You left me with the Everdale quadruplets for God's sake! Tell me, how do you think my experience was?"
She was silent for a while, and when she eventually spoke up again, her voice was low.
"There must have been a mix up somewhere," She muttered. "I didn't even know they were at the bar. The Everdale quadruplets are bad news and everyone knows that."
"Yeah, and we're dating already," I sighed.
"You've got to be kidding me, Amber!"
I heard the faint horn of a car just outside my window and I figured it was Zac's driver.
"I can't explain everything now," I sighed. "Meet me after the game tonight and we'll talk."
I hung up the call after she promised to meet up with me later and I made my way to the lawn where the car was waiting.
The driver was standing by the already open door and he bowed slightly as soon as I got there.
"Lady Amber?" He asked.
I nodded and he ushered me in. The drive to Greenfield High was supposed to be a short one, but he took a longer route and we ended up getting there a few minutes to 8 p.m.
I stepped out the car at the exact moment the referee blew his whistle for the end of the second period, and all eyes fell on me at once.
But this time, it was not the usual hateful glares from my schoolmates. It was something very different and I could feel it.
I made my way across the rink and my eyes landed on Mason. He stood rooted to the spot, his mouth wide open in shock as he stared at me. However, I didn't give him the satisfaction of returning his gaze.
I merely glanced at him before making my way past the corner where the GreenField High supporters sat. I stopped at the opposite end where a few students from Everdale High sat, and they seemed to understand my arrangement with the Everdale quadruplets because they received me with warm smiles.
The next minute, Zac and Ethan glided over to the corner where I sat and took off their helmets.
"We're tied at 2-2 and heading for the final period," Zac announced.
"So that's why you wanted me to delay," I smiled.
"Yeah," He grinned. "Now, play along."
Zac didn't give a second to understand, or get my act together. He leaned closer to me and his lips locked on mine in a passionate kiss.
My wolf growled in my head and I could feel the primal urge, the burning desire clawing at my throat. His fingers danced across my laps and I shuddered, as desire pooled between my legs.
I had definitely not expected things to turn out like this. I had no idea that my body would betray me at the slightest touch from Zac Everdale.
He pulled back, slowly breaking the kiss and a tiny part of me wished it was longer.
"Love you, Amber," He uttered, loud enough for everyone to hear. "With you by my side, we're definitely winning this!"
"Hell yeah!" Ethan cried.
"Hell yeah!" The Everdale High supporters chorused.
My cheeks flushed bright red and I sat down as soon as the boys glided back to the rink. When I looked up again, I saw Mason striding towards me. His helmet was off and his dark brown hair was scattered across his face.
He skidded to a halt where I sat and he glared hard at me.
"What the f**k do you think you're doing, Amber?" He snapped.
"Watching ice hockey," I shrugged.
"Don't you dare play games with me," He snarled and grabbed me by the arm.
"I'll leave her if I were you," Ethan growled beside me.
The next minute, Zac, Toby and Jamie had joined him, surrounding Mason, with their hockey sticks in hand.
At 6 foot tall, Mason was pretty intimidating. But in the presence of the Everdale quadruplets, he was a dwarf.
"We'll see around," He muttered before gliding away.
I could see the anger in his eyes before he left and I felt an extreme sense of self satisfaction knowing fully well that I caused it.
"Seems you enjoyed that," Jamie teased.
I smiled and just then, the referee blew the whistle, indicating the start of the final period. The brothers hovered around me a few seconds longer before finally gliding back to the rink.
The final period turned out to be a complete disaster for Greenfield High. Mason was at the center of the game as expected, misplacing passes, giving away possession too easily and missing clear chances at goal. His eyes were fixed on me half the period and it was already too late for Greenfield High when the coach eventually subbed him off. They were trailing by 6 goals to 2.
The referee's whistle signalled the end of the game and the Everdale supporters erupted in loud cheers. The quadruplets glided over to the stands and dragged me all the way to the rink. Zac lifted me onto his shoulders as he glided around the rink and although I was initially scared of falling, I warmed up to his wild celebration pretty quick.
The celebration lasted long into the night and by the time the brothers were ready to leave, it was already close to midnight.
"Thanks for tonight," Zac whispered in my ears.
His warm minty breath was enough to send little jolts of electricity coursing through my body and as he leaned down to kiss me, I shifted back.
"Rachel gave me the contract and I signed it," I informed them. "So remember, this deal ends when you leave."
"Whenever we decide to leave," Ethan chuckled.
I looked up at him and I saw the devilish grin plastered across his handsome face.
"What do you mean?" I frowned.
"See you on Monday, love," Zac smiled. "Don't keep your driver waiting too long."
The brothers chuckled, noticing my confusion and without another word, they turned around making their way to their cars parked at the far end of the stadium.
I swallowed hard as his words replayed in my head: "whenever we decide to leave."
And slowly, the realization dawned on me.
The Everdale quadruplets had no plans of leaving GreenField High anytime soon.
They had come to stay.
And I had signed up for trouble.
