Adrian Cole’s life shatters the night his mother is critically injured in a devastating accident.

Desperate to save her, he turns to the one person he believes will help—his billionaire wife, Vanessa Beaumont.

Instead, she humiliates him publicly, choosing pride and status over his mother’s life.

Betrayed and broken, Adrian walks away from his marriage with nothing but a family necklace and a decision to never be powerless again.

Inside the necklace, Adrian discovers a hidden note left by his grandfather: a clue to seven rare medicinal herbs which is capable of saving his mother, and a mysterious mathematical formula tied to a safe lock of unimaginable wealth.

With time running out, Adrian embarks on a dangerous journey across the city to find the herbs, facing criminals, corrupt officials, and constant sabotage from Vanessa and her ruthless ally, Damien Cross.

Along the way, Adrian meets Lila Moreno, a skilled herbalist with her own painful past.

Though wary of his intentions, she becomes his guide.

As they battle threats and uncover the truth behind the herbs, Adrian’s intelligence and growing strength not only earns him respect but also ignites jealousy and fear in the very people who once mocked him.

He saves his mother, exposes the corruption surrounding him, and leaves behind the world that once rejected him.

Chapter 1
The rain had started without warning. It was not heavy at first, just thin lines of water sliding down the windshield. Adrian Cole tightened his grip on the steering wheel as the road curved ahead. Beside him, his mother sat quietly, one hand resting on her handbag, and the other holding her phone. “You should slow down,” she said softly. “The road is slippery.” “I am already driving slowly, Mom,” Adrian replied, forcing a small smile. “We will be home soon.” The streetlights reflected on the wet road, making it hard to see ahead. Suddenly, a truck ahead of them swerved. Its brake lights flashed red. Adrian’s heart jumped. He pressed the brakes, but the tires skidded. The car slid sideways. There was a loud crash, metal hitting metal, and glass exploding into the air like a thousand tiny stars. Everything happened in seconds. The car slammed into the divider. The front was crushed. Smoke rose from the hood and the sound of rain mixed with the sharp ringing in Adrian’s ears. “Mom!” he shouted. Pain shot through his shoulder, but he ignored it. He turned toward her. The passenger side had taken the worst hit. His mother was trapped. The metal had folded inward. Her legs were pinned. Blood trickled down her forehead. She was breathing, but her eyes were unfocused. “Adrian…” she whispered weakly. “I am here,” he said quickly, panic rising in his chest. “Do not close your eyes. Stay with me.” He tried the door handle. It would not move. He tried again, harder. Nothing. The car’s system had locked automatically during the crash so the electric doors would not respond from inside. Smoke thickened, blocking everything from Adrian’s view and somewhere nearby, a horn kept blaring without stopping. His hands trembled as he pulled out his phone. There was only one person who could unlock the car remotely. Vanessa Beaumont. He pressed her name and prayed she would answer. ________________ On the other side of the city, music thundered inside a grand ballroom. Crystal chandeliers sparkled overhead. Guests laughed, glasses clinked, and servers moved gracefully through the crowd. Vanessa stood near the center of it all, dressed in silver silk that shimmered under the lights. Beside her was Damien Cross, her new flame, tall and confident, whispering something in her ear that made her smile. Her phone vibrated. She glanced at the screen and rolled her eyes. “Adrian,” she muttered. Damien smirked. “Still calling?” Vanessa stepped aside and answered. “What is it now?” she asked, annoyance clear in her voice. “Vanessa!” Adrian’s voice came through, shaking. “Unlock the car. Please. There has been an accident. Mom is trapped. The doors will not open from inside.” There was a short silence. Then Vanessa laughed softly. “Really?” she said. “Another one of your tricks?” “This is not a trick!” Adrian shouted. “She is bleeding. The car might explode. Just open the app and unlock the door. That is all I need.” Vanessa frowned. “You think I am stupid? Last month you pretended to faint just to get my attention.” “That was different,” he said desperately. “This is real. Listen.” He moved the phone closer to the shattered window. The sound of rain hitting metal, the distant shouting of strangers, and his mother’s weak breathing filled the line. “Mom,” he whispered near the phone, “say something.” “Adrian… leave me,” she murmured faintly. “If it explodes…” Vanessa’s expression hardened. “This is too much,” she snapped. “You are using your mother now?” “I am not using anyone!” Adrian cried. “Open the app and check the car status. You will see the damage. Just press one button.” Vanessa sighed loudly. “Fine. I will look.” She opened the car control app on her phone. The screen loaded slowly. When it refreshed, she saw the car’s camera feed. The front window was shattered. The system showed an alert. Damien leaned over her shoulder. “Looks like the window is broken,” he said. “He probably smashed it himself.” Vanessa’s lips pressed into a thin line. “So that is your plan?” she said into the phone. “You break the window, then ask me to unlock the doors so your friends can steal the valuables?” Adrian froze. “What?” he whispered in disbelief. “You think I do not see through you?” Vanessa continued coldly. “You and your mother are always looking for sympathy.” His heart felt like it was cracking. “She will die,” he said, his voice breaking. “Please.” Instead of unlocking the doors, Vanessa pressed another button. The system confirmed: All doors locked. “Now they are fully secured,” she said calmly. “Find another way to steal from me.” The line went dead. For a moment, Adrian simply stared at his phone. Then he threw it aside. “Mom, hold on,” he said, his jaw tightening. He looked around desperately and found a heavy metal rod lying near the roadside, probably fallen from the truck. He grabbed it and began hitting the damaged passenger door. Once. Twice. Again and again. Each strike sent pain shooting through his arms, but he did not stop. The metal dented slowly. His palms began to bleed and rain soaked his clothes. “Adrian…” his mother whispered weakly. “Do not hurt yourself…” “I am not leaving you,” he said through clenched teeth. With one final blow, the weakened metal gave way. The door creaked open just enough. He pulled it wider with all his strength. Carefully, he lifted his unconscious mother into his arms. She felt lighter than ever before. Sirens wailed in the distance as he ran toward the nearest car that had stopped to help. “Hospital!” he shouted. “Please!” _____________ The emergency room lights were harsh and bright. Doctors and nurses moved quickly. Machines beeped steadily. And after what felt like hours, a doctor finally approached Adrian. “She has severe internal injuries,” the doctor said calmly. “She needs surgery immediately.” “How much?” Adrian asked, already fearing the answer. “One hundred thousand dollars.” The number felt unreal. The doctor continued, “Out of humanitarian concern, we will keep her stable for twenty-four hours. After that, if payment is not made, we cannot continue.” Adrian nodded slowly, his mind spinning. One hundred thousand dollars. He sat down in the hallway and picked up his phone again. He called Vanessa. She answered almost immediately, the party music still loud in the background. “What now?” she asked impatiently. “Mom needs surgery,” he said quietly. “One hundred thousand dollars. Please.” There was a short pause. Then she laughed. “So the accident story did not work,” she said. “Now you are asking directly for money?” “This is not a joke,” Adrian replied. “She will die.” “One hundred thousand dollars is not small,” Vanessa said coldly. “You are not worthy of that.” In the background, someone shouted happily, “Vanessa! That five hundred thousand dollar party is insane! You are too generous!” Adrian heard it clearly. Five hundred thousand dollars. For one night. His grip tightened around the phone. “I have taken care of you for years,” he said softly. “I stayed when everyone left. My mother treated you like her own daughter. Now she is dying.” Vanessa let out an annoyed sigh. “You are so difficult,” she said. “Fine. If you want money so badly, come here.” “To the party?” he asked in disbelief. “Yes,” she replied. “Come to my location. Let us see how serious you are.” The call ended. Adrian lowered the phone slowly. Through the hospital window, he could see the city lights glowing in the rain. He stood up. For his mother, he would go anywhere. Even if it meant walking straight into humiliation.
