Miras POV
It had only been a few days since Alpha Achilles had promised protection to my brother, but true to his word yesterday landscapers had arrived and taken care of our training grounds area. We had received word that selected members of his clan were to arrive so that they could start training and everyone thirteen and over would start training. She-wolves and all.
I had been on edge all morning, helping my brother prepare for the arrival of Dark Moon. Despite what we were told growing up, after speaking with Alpha Achilles, I couldn’t get him out of my head. He was so different from what everyone said.
‘Mira,’ my brother said through the mind link, ‘they are here. Grab Illiana and come to the main hall.’
Agreeing, I went into the next room where my brother’s mate was putting the final touches on the room she was working on. “Illi, Raphael said that they are here.”
She nodded, and together we went down to the main hall to greet them, as was custom. By the time we reached the main floor the SUVs were pulling up. First was a group of four large men, who seemingly inspected the room quickly and then separated to create a path. Alpha Achilles then walked in with a statuesque woman on his arm. I’d recognized her as my father’s gammas daughter. My heart sank a little, realizing that he was not single.
‘Of course he isn’t single. He’s an alpha,’ Skye hissed, ‘you know their reputations. You know how your brother was before he met Illi.’
I sighed knowing that my wolf was right, but I still found myself upset.
“Alpha Achilles,”. My brother smiled, walking towards him, “so glad to have you back.”
That wasn’t a lie. He took Alpha Achilles hand and Achilles pulled him into a hug, “it’s good to be back. I feel as though this will be a second home. Have you met my new friend?”
She smiled at us. And Skye wanted to growl, but I held it back.
Why did I feel so possessive of him?
“Janna,” my brother said with a fake smile. After my father had left, so did some of those loyal to him. Namely what Raphael referred to lovingly as ‘the old guard,’ which included Jannas father, and a few senior wolves within the pack, “ good to see you are doing well. How is the rogue life treating you?”
She snarled and I could have swore I heard a low growl rising from Achilles. Unsure if it was directed at my brothers comment or Janna I stepped in the way, reaching out to her, “Janna. So happy you have come to visit.”
But she retracted her hands from mine and screeched, “your hands are frozen. Get off.”
“I’m sorry,” I sighed
Meanwhile my wolf was howling in laughter, ‘da*mit Skye you did that on purpose.’
‘Be happy she didn’t hold on. I would have given that wh*re hypothermia.’
“Would you escort my friend to my room Luna Illiana?” Achilles asked. Illi nodded without question, happy to get away from the politics. As soon as she left, his Beta Sam stepped beside him as well as an unfamiliar man, “Alpha Raphael I am sure you remember my Beta Sam. This is my brother, and head of the training at Dark Moon, my brother, Atlas.”
I snorted, and all four of the high ranking men looked at me. My brother began glaring, then turned to them, “I’m so sor-“
“I’m curious little one,” Atlas said, stepping forward. He stopped a few inches shy of me, “what is it that you find so funny?”
“Nothing,” I said, trying not to giggle. “Your father must be a very ironic man.”
“Do tell,” he said, never breaking eye contact. I felt myself unable to look away.
“Well,” I stuttered, “you are named Atlas, and head of training, so it’s as if you hold the world on your back, and it’s all based around how well you do at your job. Alpha Achilles seems to have no weakness, just as in that mythos.”
The men in the room stared at me for a minute more, before Atlas nodded and walked back to his position beside his brother. He let a small chuckle loose, “I suppose you are right, little one.”
“I did not come here to play games,” Alpha Achilles growled at me, “we arrived to assist you Alpha Raphael, but if your sister is going to make remarks as if this is all a joke, we can take our leave.”
“No,” Raphael replied quickly, “I apologize if my sister has insulted you, Alpha Achilles. Please do not take serious offense to this. Miracle, please tell our guests you didn’t mean to offend them.”
My eyes went wide, as the men looked at me expectantly. Unsure of what to do, I bowed my head and curtsied, “I do apologize. I don’t mean to offend you, leaders and high ranking of Dark Moon.”
Atlas let a few more chuckles loose as the Alpha and Beta remained stoic, “I like you. You’re feisty.”
‘Dang right I am,’ Skye smirked. She was running around happy as a dog with a bone as their was at least one member of Dark Moon she could get along with.
“Enough,” Alpha Achilles commanded. I could feel him projecting his aura through the house and everyone showed some sign of submission, even my brother. He stared me down, and for a second it felt like time froze. I could feel Skye pawing around in my mind and she began to howl.
There was something I couldn’t put a finger on. Her howling became so loud that it almost felt unbearable. I put a hand to my temple. It felt like a migraine hit me all at once.
‘Skye please stop,’ I pleaded.
‘He wants us to submit,’ she growled. She began chasing her tail and clawing at the walls of my mind, ‘why can’t we put a finger on how he affects us? It’s driving me mad.’
“Omega,” he called. I felt someone tap my back as they put an arm around me. I could hardly see straight as my wolf became even more unruly, “take her to your medical wing. She looks as though she needs a doctor. Is she close to her birthday? Your father said she was close to 18 when we spoke?”
“Five more days,” Raphael said quickly. His voice started to sound further away as I felt myself being led off.
“Her wolf is trying to come out early,” one of the men chuckled. They shared a laugh as they all clearly remembered their own first transformation. As I was rounding the corner I heard someone yell , “ I will expect you at training later today!”
