Today wasn’t just any day—it was my first day at Interhux Company, the biggest company in New York City. My heart pounded as I slowly sat up, the reality still sinking in. Just yesterday, I had received a phone call that completely changed my life. Congratulations, Miss Andrew. You’ve been selected for the position of assistant secretary at Interhux Company. Her eyes were full of pride, and that alone gave me a little courage. “Don’t be nervous,” she added. “You deserve this.” I nodded, grabbed my bag, and headed for the door. “Bye, Mom!” I called out. “Good luck!” she shouted after me. Interhux Company was even more breathtaking in person. The tall glass building towered above everything else, reflecting the morning sunlight. I stood outside for a moment, staring up at it, my heart racing. This is where you work now, I reminded myself. Taking a deep breath, I walked inside. The lobby was huge—polished floors, elegant furniture, and people walking confidently in sharp suits. I suddenly felt very small. “Miss Andrew?” I turned around to see a woman standing a few feet away. “Yes,” I answered quickly, standing up. “Please come with me.” I followed her down a long hallway, trying to keep up as my heels clicked against the floor. We stopped in front of an office door. “This will be your office, Miss Andrew,” shsaid, opening it. “You’ll be assisting with general office duties and scheduling. You’ll also be responsible for serving coffee to the director every morning.” Director? My stomach tightened slightly. I nodded anyway. “Yes, ma’am.” She smiled. “My name is Bella. I’ll be guiding you for now.” There was something warm about her tone, something reassuring. As she showed me around—explaining procedures, schedules, and expectations—I felt my nerves slowly ease. Bella was kind. Patient. Exactly what I needed on my first day. As she spoke, I couldn’t shake the strange feeling in my chest. I didn’t know who the director was yet. I didn’t know what kind of man he was. But somehow… I felt that stepping into Interhux Company today was the beginning of something I was not prepared for.
