The War-Torn Streets of Aleppo

Aleppo, Syria - 2016 The sun had barely risen over the war-torn city of Aleppo, casting a pale light over the ruins. Ahmed, a 25-year-old medic, made his way through the rubble-strewn streets, his eyes scanning the horizon for any signs of danger. Ahmed shrugged. "It's been better. We're getting slammed with patients today." Amira nodded sympathetically. "I know. I've been running around non-stop since morning." As they talked, Ahmed couldn't help but notice the way Amira's eyes sparkled when she smiled, or the way her hair fell in loose waves down her back. He felt a pang of guilt for noticing these things, but he couldn't help himself. Just then, a loud explosion rocked the hospital, causing the lights to flicker and the patients to cry out in fear. Ahmed and Amira exchanged a worried glance, before rushing off to tend to the new influx of patients. As the day wore on, Ahmed and Amira worked tirelessly to save lives and comfort the wounded.
