Promises can be very difficult to keep sometimes.” He paused and shook his head. “I know, Papa. And it’s not your fault. It’s mine. If you’ll excuse me,” she said, turning away from him so that he couldn’t see her expression. She had no idea what her face looked like, but she felt as if every muscle in it was tensed as she tried so hard not to cry.
