“Jonathan should keep playing and bouncing me around like he usually does. That’s what you want me to do for the rest of my life.” I yelled.
I kicked the bed so hard it cracked.
“Please him and suck his f*****g toes. No matter how many sacrifices I make for this family, no one cares about me.” My lips trembled in rage. “I hate you so much, mother. I wish you were not my mother. If you didn't give birth to me, my life wouldn't be this miserable.”
“Shut up your mouth.”
“You wouldn't get anything from me, Mother. I would make sure of that. If it weren’t for you, I would have gotten married to someone else—”
“Someone else?” She mocked. “Who? That bastard betrayed you, broke your heart and left you for someone else. Your first love left you for another woman.” She pointed out. “Have you forgotten? You got depressed and slept around until you dropped. That stupid beta broke your heart into a thousand pieces without a second thought.” She explained firmly. “He was ashamed of your gender and didn’t want to disappoint his parents, who wanted an alpha for their lineage. Are you blaming me for saving you from that trash?”
“He’s not—”
“Shut your damn mouth.” My mother yelled and stood up from her chair, holding her handbag. “I don’t want to listen to your nonsense anymore. I got married to your father because I love him. Sacrificed so much for him, and yet he broke my heart. I complained to everyone. Who listened to me? He kept on taking mistresses and never cared about how I felt. I stood my ground and made things happen. I didn’t sit around waiting for some hero, Prince charming to wipe me off my feet.”
Why do I want a hero, a Prince Charming, to wipe me off my feet? Why do I yearn for it to happen, even when it is impossible for me? I’m too tired to keep standing and defending myself every single day of my life.
“I went for comfort. Took the bag and raised my status. If Jonathan isn’t giving you what you want, make his properties your haven and stop whining. Even a w***e is better than you.” She chuckles. “His mistresses enjoy him more than you. Do you think his mistress loves him? No, she is in it for what she would get from him. Do the same. Think about it and play your cards well. You never actually loved him.”
I’m an Omega, adrift in a lonely world of werewolves, with no Alpha by my side. The one who should’ve protected me, my husband, is nothing more than a lust-driven bastard. Is it so wrong to want love? To crave happiness?
Sometimes, I wonder if I’m destined to be alone for the rest of my life. There’s no one who stands up for me. No one to fall for. No one sees me. Why does everyone leave me stranded, like I’m nothing? Like the memories we shared meant so little?
Why are werewolves so cold?
All I ever wanted was to be loved… to matter.
“I would advise you to do the same.” She fixed up her suit. “Do the things that make him happy.” She cackles. “The world is such a cruel place, isn't it? Take off that gloomy expression on your face, wear sexy dresses, and put on nice makeup and perfume. No alpha wants to come home to a wreck. The world moves on with or without you.” She walked off and stopped. “Lucy Mist is dead. Accept it. Give birth to another child and move on. Make your husband happy and create a happy home. Don’t come crying to me next time. I don’t want to hear it.” Her right hand touched the doorknob. “And one more thing I repeat, save your marriage by getting pregnant again. Then, another child’s arrival will probably cause people to forget Lucy and celebrate your joy as a mother once again. Do you know what they are saying about you? Buckle up.”
I stood still as my mother bent the doorknob and opened it. Taila was at the door with her eyes in shock.
She heard everything??
When did Taila get back? I thought she said she would come here tomorrow.
“Hello Taila.” My mother smiled and strolled past Taila, who rushed into the room and held me from falling to the floor.
I broke into tears.
Taila hugged me. Her grip tightened around my shoulders. I cried louder, heavier, and screamed at the top of my lungs. I couldn’t bear this anymore.
“Rose,” she whispered. “It's alright.” She mumbled. “Rose, calm down.” She pulled away from me and shook my body uncontrollably. “Shush.” She murmured again. “Calm down.”
“I don’t want this marriage anymore.”
I said through sobs.
“I want to leave.”
“I know. I know, Rose.” She rubbed my shoulders. “I know you want to leave. But I want you to stay calm.” Her hands tightened on my shoulders. “Get a grip. I get scared when I see you shaking like this. So, please.” She pleaded with me. “I don’t want to slap you back to reality.” She warned me and directed me to the front of the bed and sat down beside me.
Her gray eyes locked onto mine, filled with concern and a silent plea to know the truth behind everything. Whenever she looks at me like that, she reminds me of Pierce. His piercing gaze.
She was the female version of him.
She comforted me, saying everything was going to be alright.
Taila Mist became my best friend two months ago, right after I married her brother, Jonathan. She’s the sort of woman who commands a room without saying a word.
She was elegant, sharp, and impossible to ignore. Her sleek black hair and piercing gray eyes give her a mysterious, striking beauty.
She’s strong, confident, and lets no one underestimate her.
I love her for staying when the world crumbled around me.
She was there when I was sick.
When I lost my child.
When Jonathan broke my heart. And through it all, she never left my side.
Taila once got attacked by rogue wolves because of me, and the way she stood her ground to protect me brought me to tears. She’s a true alpha female: fierce, loyal, and unbreakable. I’ve wished countless times to be like her, strong enough to fight for myself. She’s the only one who’s ever truly seen me. The only one who never gave up, even when everyone else did. Taila warned me not to marry Jonathan. She told me how cruel he was, but I didn’t believe her. We had just met, and I thought her warning was just another rumor. I trusted my mother instead.
I was so wrong.
Back then, I didn’t know Taila was Jonathan’s sister. If I had, I would’ve walked away from everything, even the marriage. But I was already pregnant, and everything moved too fast. When I found out the truth, I asked her why she had hidden it from me. She said, “Would you have stayed friends with me if I had told you?”
To this day, I still don’t know what my answer would have been.
