“Then believe in me, Rose. I’m going to plan something. Make connections to make the contract invalid. I want to make sure nothing is going to get stretchy when you file for a divorce. So please give me a year to present the papers, and then you can beat him at his game. After all, I want to inform Pierce about this too. He knows these lawyers’ stuff, but I don’t trust him.”
Pierce?
“Why?” I questioned.
“Well, he might blurt out our plans to Jonathan and let him know you want to file for a divorce.”
“I don’t get it.” The back of my hand rubbed my eyes for a second. “Why would he do that?”
“Pierce is super weird.” She stuck out her tongue in dissatisfaction. “Jonathan can come out of nowhere, for instance, and try to provoke Pierce. You know, like, Alpha to Alpha, right?”
“Yeah.” I was interested in knowing more, anyway.
“Good.” She laughed.
“And Pierce, with his prideful self, would definitely flaunt it on his face.”
“Really.”
‘He would have said something like, ‘Your wife wants to leave your ass…’ She stopped speaking.
“And what would happen then?”
He talks like that?
She rubbed her forehead in a long sigh. “Don’t worry about it, Rose. He is a lunatic.”
I laughed. “Why do you always insult him? He is your brother. You shouldn’t say things like that about him.”
“You keep saying the same words to me every time I talk about him. Stop defending him.” She complained and got even closer to me. “If you hear how Pierce talks, you would hate him instantly.”
“Why? I’ve heard him talk a lot of times. He’s polite.”
And nice. At least that’s what I think.
“Polite??” Her gaze lit up with laughter. “Pierce???” she yelled. “Polite??? He’s worse than Jonathan, girl.” She walked past me to my closet.
Worse than Jonathan?
“How? I’ve seen him for like six years or something, right?”
“You can count the times you’ve seen him, right?”
“Yeah,” I agreed.
“But you can’t count the times you’ve seen Jonathan because you almost see him every day, but Pierce, it is once a year. You can’t know a person by seeing him once every year.”
“He doesn’t look like what you explained about him, though.” I said, remembering the last time I saw him.
“Like I said, Rose.” She searched through my clothes and brought out a heap of clothes from the closet and dumped them on the bed. “You don’t know him like I do. He’s hot-tempered and has a filthy mouth. You would hate staying around him. Just sitting in the same spot with him infuriates me. That’s why he and Jonathan hardly get along as brothers. Just stay in the same house with him for a month. He will reveal his true colors.”
Her statement made me chuckle. “It’s not that I don’t believe you though, but why is he rude, hot-tempered and has a foul mouth?”
“That’s how he’s always been.” She shrugged her shoulders and brought out my red gown to take a proper look at it.
“How? But you guys get along so well.”
“It doesn’t matter, Rose. We get along so well because I understand him. If I were like those people who gossip about him. If I were in their situation, I would hate Pierce too. So, I don’t really blame those people when they talk bad of him.” She rolled her eyes. “Pierce is seriously rude. He is a piece of shit.” She stressed out. “He’s just kind of lucky he has people who care about him around. If not, he would be the loneliest alpha in the world.”
“Wow!” I shook my head. “Has he gone back abroad?”
“Yeah, he didn’t waste time going back, though.”
He told me he was going back soon. I wished he had waited for me before he left.
“I’ve been meaning to ask. Why does he always come and go—”
“What’s that on your wrist?”
“Huh!” I raised my right hand and saw a tiny silver bracelet on my wrist. It looked pretty and suited my wrist perfectly. Where did it come from?
“That belongs to Pierce.” She rushed to my wrist and held it up.
“Really?”
“How did you get this on your wrist?”
“I…I don’t know.” I shrugged my shoulders. “He never gave me this bracelet. Are you sure this bracelet is for him?”
Could it be that she was mistaken? When I saw Pierce yesterday, I didn’t see this bracelet on him, or am I even sure he wore one?
“Yes, I can smell his pheromones on this wrist. I’m certain.”
There is no way this is from him. If he had given me something like that, I would have remembered.
Did he put it on my wrist to cover up what we did last night? Why is my head flooding up dirty thoughts?
“Taila, this is—”
“This bracelet belongs to him. I’m very sure. He never replaces something important to him.”
Something important to him?
“Why don’t I sniff his pheromones on this bracelet?” I thought out loud.
I could hardly perceive his scent.
“It must have been Jonathan’s pheromones all over your room that prevented your nose from sniffing Pierce’s scent.” She made a point. “I know Pierce’s scent from anywhere.”
She’s right. Yet, the question is, who put this bracelet on me?
“Wow!”
“What’s ‘Wow’?” She frowned in disbelief. “Don’t tell me he…” she hesitated and murmured. ‘I just hope it’s not what I’m thinking.’ She held her chin thoughtfully.
“What are you thinking?” I asked innocently, without taking my eyes off the bracelet. “Is something wrong?”
“Please tell me he’s not hitting on you.” Her palm smacked her forehead.
“Hitting on me???”
Taila can be a little dramatic.
“Yes, he can hit on you. He doesn’t care if you belong to someone else as long as you let him between your legs.”
What?
“No, you can’t be serious, Taila.”
“What do you mean by I can’t be serious, Taila?”
“Pierce isn’t doing what you are thinking he is doing. We are not that close.” I shook my head. “Why would you even think about something like that? He is your brother.”
“Will I lie about something like this? Come on, Rose. Tell me, is anything going on between you two?”
“What are you saying?”
“Rose, I know my brother more than he knows himself. You might not think he is hitting on you because he isn’t making it obvious. Pierce is sort of cunning. He isn’t straightforward when he wants to get what he wants. He comes like a snake.” Demonstrated her arm like a snake. “And strike.” I drew my neck backward when she pointed her finger at my face.
