Lucas’s POV
Another boring board meeting and it seems nothing is getting done. I feel like I am stuck in Ferris Buelle’s Day Off with the boring teacher, “Anyone, anyone…”. I chuckle to myself thinking of that movie.
I wish I could say I was like Ferris but I was more like his friend Cameron, scared to do anything against my father. My father was just as strict, and would blow a gasket if anything wasn’t done according to his instructions, expectations and plans.
Probably where I get my hot temper and OCD tendencies, also why my staff tends to jump to it when I say to. Right now, I’m trying to assess my company, and the board is just one area that I see is lacking. I mean they are supposed to have insight and protect the company assets, but they seem to be talking out of their asses and haven’t said anything insightful.
I need to put an end to this. I interpret Paul before he continues to drone on and on, “Look, I called this meeting expecting some insight. All I am seeing is a bunch of mindless talking to fill space and time. I don’t have time for this, and I expect more from you.” I say sternly. “Jackson, is handing out some reading material for all of you. This should give you a better idea of what I expect from you when we have a meeting. Read the report, know the information and give some actual insight and predictions from the information you read. It’s that simple.” I glare at each and every one of them. “We didn’t get to the top by wasting time and patting each other on the backs. We will meet tomorrow at 9am, I expect every single one of you to know your sh*t or you know where the door is”. I get up and walk out of the boardroom with Jackson trailing right behind me.
Why can’t they all be as efficient as Jackson? I have never had to tell him twice, he anticipates my needs before I even have to say them, and he gets sh*t done.
I was hoping that that meeting would give me more information on William Maxwell. I thought we were close to taking over his company, but somehow he got some back door deal that no one saw coming. Now I’m back to square one and it cost the company money while getting nothing in return. I don’t like it, I don’t like it one bit.
William is shady and I don’t trust him one bit, my father and him have had a feud for as long as I can remember. From my understanding the only thing that kept him in my father’s good graces in the early years was his wife and daughter.
Now he has some blonde bimbo, not that I have anything against blondes, but she is the stereotypical blonde bimbo you see in movies. William is as old as my father and his new wife is only two years older than I am, cradle robber much.
I have had the unfortunate experience of talking to his wife number two at a charity event once, and let’s just say once was more than enough to know I never want to experience that again. It’s a wonder she can even dress herself. Oh wait, she probably doesn’t. She probably has a servant she bosses around to assist her in that. I laugh to my myself at that thought, poor servant.
Man, I need a break from this high society b*llshit. My whole life, all I have seen is money grubbing socialites that throw themselves at me, lazy heirs that expect everything to be handed to them on a silver platter, and trust fund babies that see more days on vacation and partying than anything else. Some of them check all three of those boxes at once.
That is one thing my father got right with me, I respect the work and have made our family’s company grow almost two times as big and influential as it was when I took over just five years ago.
I am now the one everyone is looking to befriend or beat. Unfortunately, nobody does it to get to know Lucas, the person, they are only interested Lucas, the businessman. I’m tired of it all and I’m not even thirty.
I pull up the file on William Maxwell, “Jackson, have you found anything on this new deal that saved Maxwell’s ass?”
“Sir, I have Percy going through all his communications to see if there are any leads there. So far nothing confirmed, but it looks like a dirty politician made a government deal to line his own pockets” he replies.
“Sir, really Jackson? I know I’m your boss, but I’m also your best friend. I don’t need that sh*t behind closed doors,” I give him a look of mock hurt. “Let me know when you have confirmation. I’m going to go surprise some supervisors and see just how well they are doing their jobs” I give him a look that needs no explanation, and he chuckles. Some people may be going home early today if I don’t like what I see.
~~~~~~~~~~
I groan as my alarm goes off alerting me that it is already time to wake up. I like to get an early start, but the sound of an alarm is still jarring. I get up throw on some athletic shorts, a t-shirt and sneakers and head to my home gym.
This is my routine, get up before the sunrise and get my blood pumping. It clears my head first thing in the morning, and I tend to do some of my best thinking when I am working out.
As I am reflecting on life, I am pushing my muscles to the limits. Today, I decide I need to mix it up, do something different. Be more like Ferris and less like Cameron. All I do is workout, go to work, go to any business social obligations and go to charity events, then repeat the same thing over again. God my life is so boring.
I may be successful and what everyone seems to want to model their lives after, but I’m missing out on the living part of life. When did that happen? Honestly, I think it has slowly been happening since childhood when it seemed everyone started to be fake. They tried too hard to be what they were expected to be and never who they really were.
F*ck this, I think I’m going to go get some breakfast on the outskirts of town. I need out of this city and out of my routine, even if just for today.
I jump in the shower and after I am done I towel dry. I decide to skip the suit for now and throw on some jeans and a fresh t-shirt. I exit my penthouse and head down the elevator to my car that is already waiting for me out front.
I start driving away from the center of the city and go toward the suburbs. I have no plan in my mind of where I am going. Honestly, just getting a bit away from the hustle and bustle is already helping my mind.
Half an hour later and a diner on the side of the road caught my attention, my stomach makes itself known at the same time. I pull over and smile at the thought of some good comfort food, it should be a nice change from the stuffy, high end food that, while it can be delicious, doesn’t have that same comforting feeling.
As soon as I enter and hear the bell above the door, I hear an angelic voice call for me to seat myself, so I do just that. I turn to see who the voice belongs to, and the sight is just as beautiful as the voice. This is already better than eating by myself at home. I only wish I didn’t schedule another board meeting at 9am. I glance at my watch and see I have plenty of time as it is only 7am.
I smile to myself when I see the beauty approaching. Then she gets caught up staring at me, good it’s not just me. When she makes it to my table I give her my best charming smile and she welcomes me while she pours my coffee.
I make sure to get her name off her name tag so I can greet her by her name, “Josie, what do you recommend to a first time customer?”
“Not fair you know my name and I can only guess yours. Hmmm, well that depends on your tastes I suppose. Are you more of a sweet or savory breakfast eater?” Look at her asking for my name. I like how direct she is and she didn’t just give me some standard food suggestion, she is getting to know my preferences. I like that a lot.
I quirks my eyebrow at her and lean toward her and say, “The name is Lucas and I like how thorough your are in your recommendations. I’m more of a savory for breakfast and save sweet for…dessert.” I make sure to hint that I would like her to be my dessert, as I trail my eyes down her body. Mmmm, mmmm, mmmm she does look tasty.
“Hmmm, well then I would recommend the inferno omelette, it comes with a side of home fries and choice of bacon or sausage. If you aren’t into spicy then the eggs Benedict is excellent too”. She suggested with a challenge. Little does she know how much I love a challenge and her spicy personality. Yes, I can handle that kind of spicy. I couldn’t help noticing her leaning over me and got a nice view of her cleavage.
I smirk while glancing at her chest, “oh I like spicy, I’ll take the omelette with bacon.” Yes I definitely like it spicy.
She winks, “I like spicy too, I’ll place your order right away” and she sashays away with a little more sway in her hips than necessary. As my eyes trail her, she bends over while placing my order. Lord help me, I want this girl and it seems she may feel the same way about me. I smile at that thought.
Yes, breaking out of my routine was definitely needed. This is the first time in a longtime I am feeling alive. I usually distance myself from women as they are only ever after my money and status. I want what my parents have, they have always been so in love and supported each other all these years.
It is one of the reasons I am resentful for my father trying to force me into an arranged marriage. Just because I didn’t meet my Mrs. right as early as he did, doesn’t mean he needs to pressure me to marry all these fake women that kiss his ass. He doesn’t see them for who they are or how miserable my life would be with any of them.
I refuse to spend the rest of my life with anyone I don’t fall in love with. I’d rather be alone, I don’t care if that f*cks up the expectation of me producing an heir.
I shake my head clear as I see sexy Josie walking my way. God she is gorgeous, long wavy, golden blonde hair, electric green eyes that seem to dance when she talks to me. Beautiful curves, that I want to wrap my arms around and caress every inch of her. Those pouty lips that she bites when watching me, I’d like to see those lips wrapped around my c*ck. Sh*t, I have to stop this line of thinking before my semi gets totally engorged.
Josie places my food it in front of me gracefully, like a dance, “You’ll have to tell me what you think. I always like to know if my recommendations were up to my customers standards” she says and then waits for me to take my first bite, “Well, Lucas, what’s the verdict?”
I lick my lips to make sure I don’t have any sauce on my face, that would be embarrassing. I wipe the corners of his mouth with my napkin just to make sure before responding, “Delicious, may have to make this my new morning stop” I look her dead in the eye with a smirk. Hoping she gets that I want to come for more than just the omelette.
“Well if that is the case, you may want to try one of Frank’s special orders.” She suggests with a bit of sass.
I tilt my head and ask, “hmmm, and you didn’t suggest that first?”
“Well, you see Frank needs to get to know your likes first and then he will make something just for you. He can’t do that unless you are a regular,” she smiles sweetly while rocking from toe to heal. She looks so innocent like that and my imagination is going wild, down boy.
“I see, well I guess I don’t have a choice then,” I respond while leaning back with both arms across the back of the booth, hoping to catch her eyes on my muscles that I have worked so hard to maintain, “I’ll have to come see you tomorrow, cannot have you holding out on me”
Definitely worked as she stares at my arms lost in thought and then I shakes her head as if shaking her dirty thoughts away. No, don’t shake them away let’s make them a reality sweet Josie.
I give her a c*cky, knowing smirk. And her cheeks get a beautiful shade of pink to them, that makes me hard as a rock. I guess I’m sitting here a bit longer. Hopefully, I can calm down while eating before I embarrass myself. I haven’t been like this around a woman since I was going though puberty.
“Well then, if you need anything else just holler.” She says while topping off my coffee.
“Will do.” I smile and watch her hips sway as she hurries off.
Yes, I will definitely be here tomorrow. I wonder if asking her out tomorrow would be too soon. I really want to get to know this girl better, both in and out of the bedroom.
