A week after, Rodney was standing outside his doctor's clinic, this time he appeared as a man who determined enough to fight for his life. Though there was still anguish written over his face, he learned to accept the verdict of heaven to him.
He gently knocked on the door. In a few seconds, it opened. A petite young lady was standing behind the door, if he was not mistaken; her age was more or less twenty- one. Her long black hair was pony tailed where no strand of hair left falling. She was wearing powder blue scrub uniform which complemented her beauty.
"Good morning, Sir. How may I help you?" the young lady greeted him with a wide smile. Her aura was compelling.
"Uhhhmmm. I want to talk to Dr. Valle. Actually I sent him an appointment last Friday. Is he there?" Rodney didn't return the smile, instead he stiffened his looks on his face while trying to get inside the room.
"Oh, sorry, sir. You may get inside." She could not think any word to describe the handsome man in front of her.
"Thank you. Where is he anyway?"
"He's not here, but if you are Mr. Rodney Janzen, he told me to give this to you once you came here. And you did." She was still smiling while handing the envelope to him.
"Miss. Who are you anyway?" He'd been returning there for more than a year and he never knew that Dr. Valle's secretary has resigned.
"Sir, I'm your angel... No I mean... a nursing student here... practicing for you... I mean for my internship." She was rattled with the look on his expressive eyes.
It was as stern as steel, but that didn't make him less adorable. His charm was like a thief in the night, ready to devour her fragile heart.
Rodney straightly looked at her name tag and returned his eyes on her anxious but flattered face.
"Miss Lorrie May. Thank you for this." After saying that, he departed without looking back to her.
"Snobbish! Feeling cute. Humph!" She dragged her feet back to the room and slummed the door.
Lorrie May went back to her desk when she noticed a luxurious pair of sunglasses on the table. It must be his she thought so she grabbed it and locked the door. She went looking for an available elevator and jumped over, she might still catch him on the hallway. On the ground level, she finally found him who was about to go out of the building.
"Sir Rodney!" Lorrie May gave all her strength to shout on him.
Rodney stopped for a while; looked back and saw the nursing student came running.
"Sir. Hahhh. Wait a second." She said gasping for her breath.
"Yes, Miss. What's wrong?" His eyebrows wrinkled, but his hand held her arms.
"Here are your sunglasses. They seemed expensive so I bothered to return." She was now more relaxed as her right hand was giving the sunglasses to him.
He reached for it as if nothing happened, then he started walking to the car park.
"Hey, Mister. Aren't you going to thank me for that stupid.. I mean expensive sunglasses?!" she was impatiently walked behind her.
He paused for awhile; turned back and faced her.
"Alright, Miss. Thank you. Are you satisfied?" he said, unsympathetically.
"Thank you? I won't buy it. You see I came down all the way to the tenth floor to give you those sunglasses, but I never heard you said anything. You are so conceited. Nah!" she straightly said to his stiffed expression.
"So what do you want so I can make it up to you?, Miss." He lowered down his voice, but the stern in his look remained.
"My name is Lorrie May. Call me for that name." she got irritated when he called him Miss.
"How much do you need?" He took out his wallet and offering her a few cash.
"No. I don't need your money. I just want a ride coz I'll be getting really late to my class." She explained, her eyes were afraid to look at him. She was not ready to be caught by his expressive eyes.
"Fine." said Rodney impatiently.
They rode his car and hit the road. Inside, they didn't talk. Silence was the name of the game.
