Heart beyond destiny
Hearts Beyond Destiny
Episode 1 – Part 1: The Girl Who Stopped Believing in Love
The morning sky above Ashford City was painted in soft shades of gold and pink as the first rays of sunlight spilled over the rooftops. The city was already awake. Cars flowed through the streets, cafés welcomed their first customers, and office workers hurried toward another ordinary day.
For Amelia Carter, however, there was nothing ordinary about this morning.
She stood quietly in front of the mirror inside her tiny bedroom, carefully buttoning a navy-blue blouse she had ironed the previous night. Her room was simple—just a narrow bed, a small wooden wardrobe, a bookshelf filled with novels, and a desk where she often spent sleepless nights writing in her journal.
She stared at her reflection.
"Smile," she whispered.
The reflection didn't cooperate.
It had been two years since Daniel Brooks walked away from her with the words that still echoed inside her heart.
"Love doesn't pay the bills."
He had chosen wealth over the girl who had loved him with everything she had.
Since then, Amelia had promised herself never to believe in fairy tales again.
Love, she concluded, belonged only in novels.
Reality was different.
Reality demanded rent, groceries, medicine, and sacrifices.
A soft knock interrupted her thoughts.
"Amelia?" her mother's gentle voice came through the door. "Breakfast is ready."
"I'm coming."
She grabbed her handbag and walked into the small dining room.
The Carter family lived modestly.
Her mother, Grace Carter, worked long hours as a tailor.
Her younger brother, Noah, was preparing for university entrance exams.
Every penny mattered.
Grace smiled warmly as Amelia sat down.
"You hardly slept."
Amelia laughed softly.
"Is it that obvious?"
"A mother notices everything."
Noah grinned.
"Especially when someone has a job interview at Lawson Holdings."
Amelia rolled her eyes.
"Don't remind me."
"You'll get the job."
"What if I don't?"
Grace reached across the table and squeezed her daughter's hand.
"You've always worked harder than anyone I know."
"Hard work doesn't always win."
"It usually does."
Amelia looked at her mother.
Despite years of struggle, Grace never lost hope.
Perhaps that was the greatest strength a person could possess.
After breakfast, Amelia hugged both of them.
"I'll call after the interview."
"We'll be waiting," Noah said.
As she stepped outside, a cool breeze brushed against her face.
She inhaled deeply.
"Whatever happens today," she whispered to herself, "I'll keep moving forward."
---
Across the city, life looked very different.
The top floor of Lawson Holdings overlooked nearly every skyscraper in Ashford City.
Floor-to-ceiling windows surrounded a spacious office furnished with dark wood, polished marble, and modern artwork.
Standing near the glass was Ethan Lawson.
At twenty-nine, he had built one of the country's fastest-growing technology companies.
Business magazines called him a visionary.
Employees called him demanding.
The media called him "The Ice King."
Few knew the man behind the headlines.
Lucas Reed entered without knocking.
"You've been staring out that window for ten minutes."
"I know."
"Thinking?"
"When am I not?"
Lucas dropped into one of the leather chairs.
"You have twelve meetings today."
"I know."
"A charity dinner tonight."
"I know."
"And twenty-three interviews for your new executive assistant."
Ethan finally turned.
"Cancel them."
Lucas blinked.
"What?"
"I don't have time."
"You've already postponed these interviews twice."
"They can wait."
Lucas sighed dramatically.
"One day I'm going to quit."
"No, you won't."
"You say that with too much confidence."
"Because I'm right."
Lucas laughed.
Despite Ethan's cold personality, they had been friends since university.
He understood something few others did.
Ethan wasn't heartless.
He was simply protecting a heart that had been broken years earlier.
His former fiancée had betrayed him for money and influence.
Since then, he trusted contracts more than promises.
"At least interview one candidate," Lucas insisted.
"Fine."
"One."
"One."
Lucas smiled victoriously.
"I'll send in the strongest applicant."
---
Amelia stood nervously inside the lobby of Lawson Holdings.
The building was breathtaking.
Crystal chandeliers reflected sunlight across polished marble floors.
Employees walked confidently through the halls, each appearing to know exactly where they were going.
She suddenly felt very small.
The receptionist smiled politely.
"Name?"
"Amelia Carter."
"You have an interview with Human Resources."
"Thank you."
She followed the directions toward the waiting area.
Several other applicants sat nearby.
Some wore designer suits.
Others confidently reviewed thick portfolios.
Amelia glanced at her simple résumé.
Maybe she wasn't impressive enough.
A man sitting beside her noticed.
"First interview here?"
She smiled politely.
"Is it that obvious?"
He chuckled.
"A little."
"I'm Ben."
"Amelia."
"You'll do fine."
"I hope so."
Before she could reply, a loud crash echoed through the lobby.
Someone had accidentally dropped an entire tray of coffee.
The slippery liquid spread across the marble floor.
People stepped back.
No one helped.
Without hesitation, Amelia rushed over.
"Are you alright?" she asked the young employee who had dropped the tray.
The employee looked ready to cry.
"I'm so sorry... it's my first week..."
"It's okay."
Amelia knelt and helped gather the scattered cups.
"It's only coffee."
Other employees finally joined in.
Within moments, the mess was cleaned.
The young employee smiled gratefully.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome."
Neither of them noticed the man watching from the second-floor balcony.
Ethan Lawson.
He had witnessed the entire scene.
Most applicants had simply watched.
One had helped without expecting recognition.
He quietly turned to Lucas.
"Who is she?"
Lucas checked the interview list.
"Amelia Carter."
Ethan looked down again.
Interesting.
Very interesting.
Little did either of them know that this brief moment would mark the beginning of a story that would change both their lives forever.
